SIMPSONS, Springfield PD Badge

I could have sworn I saw someone with a work in progress thread about sculpting a cartoon badge from the Simpsons animated TV show. It was a badge as used by the cops on the show, but looked like an LAPD badge (with a nuclear reactor where the LA city hall goes on the LAPD version). It was being sculpted and looked pretty close to done, so did I imagine it or did it get lost??

I was hoping the builder was going to offer these up later in the JY.

Blad was the one posting the photos. The thread was locked earlier today because it was one joke too many about the BR pistol. However, Blad's badge photos looked real enough. He makes resin Dreddworld badges for me to sell through Termight Replicas and the photos showed the same colour of urethane resin that he uses for those.

Cheers,

Wake

Yow...getting pulled for making jokes about the BR thing? Shades of Tyrell Corporation. What was the connection since it was a thread about an original sculpt of a badge from a cartoon?? Beginning to sound a bit Draconian around here. Blad, if you are out there, can you re-post without whatever joke you made about whatever sacred cow please??

:unsure

Man, I can't believe they pulled the whole thread. I know it was BR joke heavy, but he was showing some actual work of interest to many people. It can still be seen over on PC.

Maybe when he puts them up for sale, he'll donate the proceeds towards buying a sense of humor for a certain Moderator whose name rhymes with Bonnie. :unsure

Hi people,

As Wake said the badge does exist, it was fun to make and I will be putting a thread in the JY when I've made a few.

I would rather this thread not be locked so I'm not even going to mention 'than which must not be mentioned'. Apparently I was not funny.

The original image was this:

The badge I've made is this:

Silver-gray resin and bright yellow (Simpson's style). There are a couple of bubbles and I flooded the top part of the badge a little.

Should I attempt to match the 'credits used' colours? As this is a pure animation fantasy badge I feel it works best with bright animation colours, but of course it could be made in plain resin ready for painting in gold or silver, or a combination of the two.

I have made up some transparent decals with very thin characters like the original, SPRINGFIELD, POLICE, 318, SPRINGFIELD P.D., WIGGAM, CHIEF and also SHELBYVILLE, POLICE 108.

Sorry guys, it was just the way it was taken, reguardless of how it was "meant". And Lonnie wasn't the only one who felt it was a joke, and one to many.

Draconian? Give me a break.

Darkknight0667, I'm pretty sure you can use his actual name, it isn't a big secret. :rolleyes

Well then clearly none of you read the thread properly or looked at the pictures, I didn't fake them.

A message before the thread was locked would have been nice.

Shame on all of you.

I have now had to cancel my career as a stand-up comic because you didn't think I was funny.

Break granted. Perhaps I jumped the gun with that chracterization... :rolleyes

Not to drag this out, but here is what happened.

Blad posted his BR joke thread. The first one or two joke threads were OK, but they were starting to grate on people's nerves, and bumping legit prop threads off the main page.

I locked the thread, and PMed Blad. I told him that I had locked the thread, and why. I also stated that if he wanted to start a straightforward thread about his badge replica, that he was free to do so. An interest thread would go in the JY, and a showoff thread would go in the Prop Forum. I also stated that I would remove the old thread if he decided to start a new thread.

He stated that he would start a new thread, so I removed the old one. Apparently, he didn't start the new thread fast enough for some...

Now that the disappearing thread, Blad's sense of humor, and my lack of one have all been discussed, maybe we can discuss props. :)

Blad, you've got a great replica there. You've really captured the look of the badge. If it were me, I'd leave it unpainted, and let the individual paint it. It would make build up easier, especially if you have optional decals to apply after the paintjob.

For God's sake, Lonnie. Stop meddling.

You're as bad as the Gorram Alliance.

Blad's original thread was a legitimate prop thread, even a casual reader could see that. Because he and some others decided to inject a little humor into their discussion is their business. It didn't make it any less legitimate and it's bumping of other threads only showed that there was sufficient interest in it (as well there should be, it's a cool piece). The discussion didn't break any of the rules of the CoC, so there was no reason for you to have locked the thread. As for anyone that might not appreciate the humor in that thread (yourself included), let them seek out one of the umpteen other threads here that are conducted in a more serious fashion. Remember, this is a hobby, so let people enjoy it in the manner that makes them happy.

When someone breaks a rule then, by all means, step in (please be ready to quote the CoC when you do). Until then, stop trying to tell people what they can talk about and how they should talk about it.

From Serenity
"People don't like to be meddled with.

We tell them what to do, what to think.

Don't run, don't walk.

We're in their homes and in their heads and we haven't the right.

We're meddlesome."

I love the badge. I would agree, leave it unpainted/solid color & let the recipient decide how to paint. I'm partial to the bright yellow myself. :)

Is the badge cast in mulitple pieces (yellow background piece and grey overlays) or as one piece?

I'd like to get one in multiple pieces so I could paint it with multiple paints without worrying about masking. I'd probably go for a more realistic look and use krylon brass for the base and Alclad II chrome for the overlays. Then with the decals over that, it would look great.

Darkknight0667, if Lonnie hadn't deleted that thread, I would have.
Like I tried to say, Lonnie isn't "out to get ya". If eltee didn't want his thread deleted, maybe he shouldn't have let it ride on the coattails of such a hotly debated topic.

Meddling, Meddling, Meddling. You really are the Gorram Alliance.

Blad's topic (not eltee's) was riding just fine on it's own. Just because some people decided to make a few humorous connections to another sticky subject in reference to his project doesn't violate the CoC. There was absolutely no justification for those actions.

Don't you two have more important things to worry about than being the "Thought Police"?

Blech.

"...let it ride on the coattails of such a hotly debated topic." What does that mean exactly in this context?

I thought my question, which opened this thread, was asked AFTER the original badge thread was already deleted so I don't understand your reference, "If eltee didn't want his thread (my thread [this one] or Blad's thread?) deleted..."

I guess having your finger on the kill button is nice, but honestly I don't know why there is angst directed at me by you. I already apologized for my "Draconian" remark. There was no intent to violate forum rules and no allegations of a violation have been presented, so why the attitude? There was also no intent to hurt feelings, injure reputations, etc.
