silicone questions???

Does Smooth-On ever offer any coupons or sales? I have a costume in the works where I need a silicone mask, as I need the super soft flexability. But $120 for supplies for just enough for a mask for myself is hard to swallow. Does any other company offer a more cost-efficient 00-30 shore silicone? Thanks for your help!!

Re: silicone options???

The $25-30 size materials would probably be plenty, get two and you should be set.

Re: silicone options???

If it's just a simple mask, doing several (approx. 10) layers of brush on latex with a fiberglass mothermold over the latex is simple and cheap.

Are you casting it out of silicone? Then forget what I said above.

Silicone it is. This is the character-

And I want facial movement. So if you've ever seen the masks on Composite Effects | Custom Theatrical Props, Special Makeup Effects, Silicone Masks, Foam Latex Appliances, Mold Making & Casting, Animatronics, Model Sculpting, you can see the type of movement masks cast in 00-30 shore silicone can yield. Thanks guys.

Re: silicone options???

Also, forgot to explain- the $120 quote came from the rebound 25 brushable mold silicone, the ecoflex 00-30 shore mask silicone, slic-pig silicone pigments, and the psycho paint silicone paint base. I can deal with buying the two silicones, but is there another option for painting and pigmenting silicone?

Bump for unanswered questions. How do people tint silicone other than using Smooth-On's tints and paint bases??

Use another silicone companies silicone tint bases? Honestly I believe that is the best answer, silicone rejects many tints you have to stick with those designed for the purpose or cross your fingers you won't have an adverse reaction and it's a specialized market so the options are limited...

You might have hit or miss luck with some universal tints but with the cost of silicone personally I wouldn't risk the gamble over a proven solution...

Just Google up some alternative pigments if you want to experiment beyond Smooth On

silicone pigment - Google Search

I use powdered acrylics and pigment powders. (with smooth on silicones, NO PROBLEM)
Micheals had some in their scrapbooking dept amond the finely powdered glitter.
I KNOW for a fact that The Compleat Sculptor (The Compleat Sculptor, Inc. online catalog->pigment) has a GREAT selection of powders.

In my experience in using Smooth-On's silicones you really can only get away with using other silicone based products to tint them such as their Psycho Paint. There's another company that makes silicone tints out of Canada that I've seen but they're just as costly.
