I was wondering if you can make silicone molds of objects that have Rub N' Buff on it without any damage to the mold or the paint job of the object. Is it possible?
Youll have to coat the original master item with some form of mould release whether it be off the shelf in a rattle can, brushed on in liquid form or Vaseline. All will have ill effects on the rub n buff. If nothing is used the rub n buff will likely become in-bedded into the silicone itself.
You may get some of the R&B transferring to the silicon but it would probably wipe of or would come off attached to your first cast.
On a personal note I never apply release agent to any hard object moulded in silicon.
The rub n buff wouldn't cause damage or cure inhabits to the silicone, Rub n buff is just wax. It might transfer onto the silicone slightly but i don't think it would be enough to cause any damage to the original paint job. I wouldn't use mould release, unless the object you are moulding is made from silicone.
