Silicone lifecasting

I am planning to do a head cast in silicone for prosthetics and I would like some advice from people with experience,
How much would I need and how easy is it to apply?
I will be doing the back of my head in plaster bandages so I wouldn't need as much silicone.
I am using silicone because when I use alginate it sets too fast and rips too easily

I'd go with a gallon- that way you have some extra, just in case. It's fairly easy to apply, just be sure to use vinyl, not latex, gloves, as lifecasting silicone is platinum based. A very light coat of vaseline helps remove it from the skin and any hair.

A gallon might be overkill for something like that and especially if you're using lifecasting silicone such as body double, it will end up costing you like 400 bucks. I personally always use Body Double. You can also use Plat-sil Gel 10 since it is skin safe or any other skin safe platinum cure silicone. Here's a chart to help you with your calculations...http://www.smooth-on.com/tb/files/bodydouble_visual_coverage_chart.pdf Personally I recommend buying 2 pint kits to be safe of the standard set. It's an easy 1:1 ratio. Oh dont forget to make keys in the silicone for the mold. Otherwise the silicone will fall away from the plaster mothermold when you try and spin up a casting.

I was planning on using platsil gel 10 for lifecasting, and then using it again for the prosthetics.
Would it work if I mix up and apply only a small amount at a time? because I want to make sure I can apply it all before it sets so I do not waste too much.
