Sideshow/Legacy Life-size 'The Child' figure

So after much deliberation, I decided I’d fix the head indent myself. Happy to report that the fix went very smoothly.
I believe I was correct about the foam collapsing and thus being the cause of the indent. If anyone is familiar with polyfoam you’ll be familiar with that issue.

As far as the actual process, I’d highly recommend Adam Savage’s video for the body deconstruction.
Once the body was open, I removed the head and used a fresh exacto blade to very carefully open the bottom hole a little wider. The foam was rigid, but rather soft maybe a 3 or 4lb foam? In my case, it was very clear by the appearance, whatever it was, it was mixed incorrectly. It being rigid meant I wouldn’t be able to just pick it out like I’d hoped. Turned to the trusty Dremel with a sanding drum. It cuts right through the foam like butter, but light contact with the vinyl doesn’t do much to harm it. I dremeled a decent cylinder all the way down to the top of the head. This took maybe 5 minutes at most. I bagged the head with a rubber band around the bottom to keep it nice and clean.

I blew all the foam dust out of the head with my shop compressor, and added a little bit of cotton padding. After a few seconds very gently heating it under a heat gun (be very careful of the hair) I used a wooden dowel against the padding to push the head into place. Hot water may have been a better way to do this but I was worried about the paint.
I held it until it cooled down and then packed the rest of the head very tightly with the cotton. It seems to be staying in place on its own, but I may make a little fabric cover and glue it down to the vinyl just to keep everything in place.

Just waiting on the armature wire and then I can finish this up. Apologies I didn’t take any photos through the steps. I will be sure to take some nice ones at the end of the process when he’s all back together.
I see folks reviews where the head can move by a few degrees left and right. Is there any reason why it's only a few degrees? Is the neck circular? What's stopping it from rotating 360?

Mine rotates a full 360

It is sort of a track and groove type thing. Basically the neck has a thin spot and a wider flange that holds the head on. Like a dolls head. It does rotate the full 360. I’ll grab a photo when I get home later today and edit it into this post.

As promised. Here are photos of the neck. Note that I cut the hole on the bottom of mine open for access to the foam. The stock head has a smaller hole, but otherwise this is exactly what it looks like.

I'm with Mr Mold Maker I think the best method I've seen so far for arm movement is Adam Savage's method but please Mr Mold Maker if you figure out a better way please post as your magic with props . I might attempt this down the line just can't hack up my brand new Child just yet I think my Wife would kill me !

Here are some quick pics.

As far as mods, this is what I’ve done.
Adam’s wire mod.
Weathered the cloak.
Pulled the red back with a soft cotton pad and some alcohol.
Added some darker green shading.
Finally I fixed the dented head, which isn’t really a “mod” as much as a fix, I suppose.

Thanks for the kind words Nightlyfob79. The only thing I did differently than Adam was I stuck the wire into the body first and glued the hands on last. I also gave myself a little extra wire in the body so if I ever get a good cup he can reach far enough to hold it.

I apologize about the obnoxious watermarks, but lately I’ve had a hot-streak of scammers stealing my photos for junk Etsy listings.

i just got my dhl import fee, £100.82, ouch, still worth it for the coolest thing out there, (y)
I do regret buying direct from Sideshow- a few UK sellers had these on pre order for less than the £433 it worked out at buying direct (was quite reasonable till the import fees were added on!).

Mr Mold Maker, do you have a photo of the head dent before the repair? Just wondering where to look for the possible flaw. Thanks.

It is pretty hard to see, like I mentioned the dent on mine was fairly well hidden in the wrinkles. In the profile view you can see it the best. 1672DD96-25B6-4AFA-A309-2C7FE106B35E.jpegC6E6FE43-9493-44F7-ACBB-CB6A5D354FC9.jpeg7DD5488E-FAFE-4438-9A68-0A2D54DBD397.jpeg6B967C16-1B70-4EBB-8FB1-CC08E40EE200.jpeg

This one below is actually the photo that made me go back and check mine. Credit to whoever posted it on FB, sorry I didn’t grab the name. It shows a very bad dent in a totally different area. The comments had a few other folks mentioning dents but no more photos unfortunately.
