I was torn about whether to put this in the Prop Forum or the Costuming Forum, but since it will be exclusively a display piece, I wasn't torn too long. :)

Last year I was lucky enough to bring a brilliant X-Wing helmet into my collection -- a Biggs helmet converted from an authentic APH-6B by our own Stephen210. The helmet came to me through another member here, Pauleysolo. You can see shots of that helmet here.

The Biggs helmet inspired me to commission two new helmets from Steve: a Wedge lid (also converted from an APH-6B) to go with the Biggs, and a Luke Endor converted from an AN-H-15.

Steve started on the Endor conversion a few days ago. Here, with his permission, are some progress photos:

I provided the AN-H-15 and Stephen210 has done the rest: soft parts, hard parts, and finishing. He is currently weathering the soft parts using Fuller's earth. I expect to have more photos to post soon. :)

I've wanted an Endor helmet in my collection for a long time, and am very pleased that Steve accepted the commission.

Thanks for the great work, Steve! :thumbsup

Thanks for hosting, Pilot. :thumbsup

And thanks for looking, everybody! :thumbsup

Looks really good! :)

Just one thing I'd point out - the AN-H-15 should have part of the cloth bill trimmed on it, like this:

Here's one I put together the other year:

Lovely helmet. I got one of these too from the master himself.

Does anyone know where to get an accurate ribbed top section though? Its the only thing I don't like about the RA conversion. The ribs should be more pronounced (padded?) and be narrower at the front and back, wider in the middle to fill the hole in the doughnut better.

Okay, I need to stop by Steve's place this week and check it out myself! :thumbsup

Thanks for all the great comments, everybody. :)

Very cool, I think this is the first one of these i've seen before
They're out there; I'm pretty sure I've seen one in bothanspy's collection, and kurtyboy mentions that he's got one later in this thread. But it's actually a bit surprising to me how few of them seem to be around, since AN-H-15s are still readily available.

Are ya listening, Steve? :lol

Great reference shots, Howlrunner. Thanks very much for posting those. And nice work on your Endor lid. :D :thumbsup

By the way, I noticed the odd display head, too. When I was in school, I had a roommate who looked very much like that. :confused So much so that, if he'd had that display head in his possession, I think people would have assumed he had had it custom-made to look like him. :confused

Nice looking. My question where does the "doughnut" part come from?
I actually don't know much about the history of this particular donut, but imagine that it was cast from a custom sculpt by Steve or Richie. Perhaps Stephen210 himself will chime in on this.

I was looking at some screenshots of Luke's Endor helmet and noticed the same thing: the ribs on the screen-used Luke helmet look as if they have padding (or possibly even tubing?) inside them, making them rounder and more rippling. Your observation about the overall shape of the ribbed area is well taken, too. I wonder whether it would be possible to modify the RA ribbed top, or whether it would be easier to do the piece from scratch. I was thinking I might try to add a bit of stuffing to the ribs -- but you've already got one of these beautiful helmets in your collection, and if the mod were possible, I suspect you would already have done it. :)

I envy you your ability to do that! Please give Steve a clap on the back and a hearty "Great job!" from me. :D

Yeah I thought about doing that but then noticed it was also the wrong shape as well. I did try asking around but nobody seems to offer accurate ones :(

Studiocreations had the right idea :)

Glad you guy like it. These shots of the helmet were still in work. I hadn't cut the brow off yet. But good eye. As far as the ribs.. the more you pull it down over the head the flatter they become. Some appear flat to me some don't in pictures I have looked at. I guess there is always room for improvement and/or to ones tastes. I'm pleased with them.
Richie and I custom scupled the donut years ago. It was a fun project.

Best Regards,
Steve

New photos! :D

Steve has completed the Endor helmet and sent me the pics below.

He added the black stripes to the back of the donut, trimmed the AN-H-15 bill, and weathered the soft parts with Fuller's earth.

I'm delighted with the results! It's another example of Steve's beautiful work. :love :thumbsup

Thank you, Steve!
