Superman 1:1 Bust

After a couple of months of waiting my Superman bust is finally complete!

This is truly a masterpiece.

I need to give a HUGE thank you to John Allred, HereBeMonsters.

He worked with me every step of the way on painting and building up this Superman bust. It looks very realistic and the base he made is just insane! I highly recommend him. He sends updates and progress shots very often to make sure everything looks good. Nice work John!

Thanks to Chris King too. He was a big part of this project and actually came up with the Fortress of Solitude base idea. I then expanded on it and overall I think it looks really classy.

The green crystal came from hydin. Thanks, it worked out great with this display!

Now, on to the pictures!

What an amazing piece of work:

Wow ... I am totally speechless. This turned out phenomenal! The paint, base, the sculpt ... it's all perfect!

The sculpt looks great, really love the base as well. Argh, should get one of those crystals.

thats awesome. love the sculpt. the only small criticism i have is that the white of his eyes dont seem white enough. every time i watch the films, i cant but help noticing how white and pure his eyes are. it might just be the lighting tho. ^_^

I kind of agree, it looks like his eyes are bloodshot . Other than that, it's perfect! Man that is a great sculpt! The base is REALLY nice.
I forgot to ask, how did he do the suit? What kind of medium did he make it from?

Looks great Jeff, Congratulations!
Very nice display and with that green crystal, it can´t look bad.
There is just one thing, were the eyes painted? If so, I think it´s a little
bit sad that you didn´t get a set of quality glass eyes attached inside.
It would have made him even more real.

The eyes are so important, other than that, great paintjob and display.

Nice work The eyes are off a bit, may want to ad some more variations of lighter blue in there to tone them down. Using glass eyes to me is like cheating. So I never do

i agree with this comment. the eyes looks off. i'm also not crazy about the sculpted clothes and the lack of the superman chest logo. other than that, looks good.

the sculpt itself it's fabolous. is that the one we saw here in the past? it's dead on. best reeve ever

Thanks guys,

It really is a great piece.

I originally was going to build a larger bust with the S emblem included but it was just going to cost too much more money. The costume was a LOT of money.

I am really happy the way this display looks and I am very picky collector. :)

I would have preferred glass eyes but John wanted to paint them. They are white and not at all blood shot. In person they look good but not as good as glass eyes.

If they did look bad I would have Bjorn or someone install some glass ones but I can live with these...I might upgrade them if I decide I want to spend $150 on some of those really nice glass ones.
Superman is now under an acrylic case.

I will try to take some more pics later this weekend.

Thanks again for the comments!

Here is a closeup of the eyes for all the nitpickers.

I think John did a really good job with them. Real eyelashes too.

Almost as good as glass.

A bit crooked but you get the idea:

What a stunning display, beautifully presented too. I love the acrylic case, it really tops it off. :thumbsup
