Show Off: Tenel Ka's Rancor Tooth Lightsaber....

I've been working on this off and on for a while. It's layer upon layer of sculpy over an aluminum foil base. It's 98% hand sculpted. The emitter is the barrel off of a pirate gun and the belt hanger and buttons are metal.

It weighs more than I expected (almost as much as my ROTJ Luke saber)

I know it's not 100% accurate to any one version. I took what details I liked and worked my own into them. I'm extremely please with how it turned out.

Looks cool!
I actually have the real one I built for the Essential Guide to the Force, but I need to finish it. When I do complete it I'll post a full parts list.

Re: Show Off: Tenel Ka's Lightsaber....

Wow, weird. Never heard of this one, what's it from?

Is that supposed to be a Rancor tooth or something?

Good job BTW!

Re: Show Off: Tenel Ka's Lightsaber....

Yup. It's from the Young Jedi Knights novels. Never read them but the Rancor tooth lightsaber was too cool not to make.

Very cool.(y)thumbsup

Although, I must admit when i first saw the photo it reminded me of a female pleasure product. :lol

That looks great.:thumbsup I love that character, and you did a fantastic job on that saber.
I made one years ago but it is not as nearly as nice as yours and it was before I could find a drawing (after reading that first book in which it appears I ran out and made one that weekend out of sculpty) It describes the 2 of them as Rancor teeth with engravings from her homeworld on them. I made it smaller because she was using one in each hand at age 13. Anyway, now that they have good drawing so at some point I will make a much better one, like yours, but for what its worth...
(sorry the last pic is blurry, oh well -I never felt that end was finished , it needed some metal in it)

Cool. I like that they're original concepts. Makes 'em more personal :)

I know very little about the character. I remember when she first came into being and my brother in law told me about her Rancor tooth saber. I had no idea about the markings. I would have added some. Oh well, what's done is done...

I think in the newest designs the marking are gone anyway. The cover of the book Tempest is the best shot I have seen, and it looks a lot like yours:)

wow thats really unique! I dug up a few paintings of the one in reference. Im inspired now...

The Tempest cover is really cool and was the basis for mine since I had to keep it in-universe accurate.
The Tempest cover and my art for The Essential Guide to the Force are on Wookieepedia...

I made it from a resin casting of a T-Rex tooth. I still have some bondo and final finish work to do on it.

About time someone made one of these. Me and a board member from ASAP made plans to make a pair some years ago but it never really got off the ground. Yours is fantastic BTW!

Slight update. Went out to check my mail today and found this neat little toggle bolt thingy laying by the sidewalk and it was too cool not to add.

I used both of the paintings above as inspiration. I used to tempest cover for the over shape but all of the details were inspired by lonepigeon's saber. Great job by the way. :)

Those pics are great, THANKS - great painting, lonepigeon:thumbsup

All this discussion is pushed me into action and now I am going to go ahead and start on a new one.

What are the basic dimensions of the one you made, Glim999?
