Should I wait before getting the Hobbit DVD?

Yeah, I guess it wouldnt be the first movie that became more complicated due to 3D... I guess it all depends on the productio company too though, there's some films where it's ok and others where I just plain suffer from a headache for a day or so after... I gotta pick this up as soon as it releases I'll invest in the extended collector's version later :)

My roommate got it on blueray, it doesnt have a ton of extras, so I would at least wait till the extended cut later this year. But I am still happy he got it, since I am enjoying watching it again :)

Maeblade brings up a good point.. the EE will have all the real extras. The current version just has the webisodes that we've all seen already.

Yes, I'm waiting for the EE. And yes, I liked AUJ just fine, and yes, I would like to see more of it, thanks. I honestly don't know what people were expecting.. the types of complaints I'm hearing just don't make any sense. Either you haven't read the book, which means you're upset that the tone and style is so different from LOTR, which means it's your own damned fault, or you have read the book, in which case you're somehow surprised that they expanded the story even though you already knew it was a nine-hour epic, in which case it's still your own damned fault. So shut your gob and let those of us who liked the film enjoy it.

AND I LIKE HFR TOO!!

I bought the cheapest DVD version I could find. I will be getting the extended Blu-ray later this year. The DVD will then go to my kids.

The article I read said it was getting 13 minutes. How many minutes were added to the LOTR Extended Editions? Honestly, I finally got around to watching the LOTR Extended Editions and I couldn't tell what was added. It took me 6 days to get through all three movies though. I just don't have it in me to watch those films for that long.

Now if it were Game of Thrones, I've gone through an entire season in 2 days. I admire the hell out of the Lord of the Rings novels, but the believability and acceptance of the Game of Thrones cinematic worlds ranks higher to me. Some day I may have to read those books.

There's definitely differences in the extended versions, and I noticed them when I finally watched them. Mostly I noticed the absence of those scenes in the originals. The third film has the most, as I recall.

I still haven't seen The Hobbit, so I'm not sure whether an extra 13 min will make a difference, really, in a story that's already being artificially extended by a staggering degree. Maybe it's just an extended sequence of Beorn drinking some mead, and then belching for 13 min.

No, no, wait. Tom Bombadil with a singing elf chorus! Say what you will about how extraneous he is to the story, but ol' Tom puts on a hell of a floor show.
