I've only got the bottom (unseen) half of the front page to do but I'm still stumped with some of the fine print on the header of the page.

The back page and the rest of the front page will be completed with material from a real August 1966 newspaper. The screen used newspaper only reads "Wednesday, August 1966".

I've changed some names and changed some locations, addresses and phone numbers to Portland, Maine.

Anyone know what these bits I've highlighed might read? I've got the rest.

Man... that is awesome!! I will be picking that up from you. I stiill need your BTTF items as well. I picked up your Shawshank stuff, but need to find a cool way to display them. I like the way Jedifyfe displayed your BTTF, so when I pick those up, I will have to frame them that way.

So that leads me to ask... Any suggestions on framing the Shawshank props, and including the paper when it is done? And suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Right now they just sit on a shelf and do not get the attention and respect they truely deserve.

Lokk forward to see this prop finished and ready for sale... :love

You will sell it, right? Would be a shame, if not... :)

Maybe a nice shadow box? Not something I've ever tried myself but since the props are essentially flat probably the best option.

The newspaper page will be cut to the same size as one of the brooadsheets here, so it will be filled out with newspaper pages and will look like a real newspaper.

Looking great Marcus! I ahte writing the articles for newspapers.

Here is a scan of a BTTF paper. I doubt it says the same thing, but maybe something close.

The newspaper is probably something like 10 cents (possibly 25 cents, if the prop maker didn't research it as thoroughly). It was usual to have a brief weather report on the front page, and one of the places was in the first question mark spot you have under LATE COPY EDITION. Another spot for an even briefer one was where you have the second question mark. Alternatively, it might say something like a pointer to a local sports team's scores, or maybe "MIGHTY JOE SULLIVAN'S NEW COLUMN/See section 3, page 22".

Sorry, my eyesight isn't that good anymore. Hope that helps.

Under the Late Copy Edition it usually has a rundown of what is in the paper and on what pages. The third "?" may be the papers phone number or address, some papers have this here. Also the fourth "?" may read like - 12 pages today 7 cents. Papers in the mid to late 60's were around 5 to 10 cents.

Hope this helps,

I'll go with "TEN CENTS" for the price. It fits.

Still need to decide about the rest...

Almost the very end. Right before the Police come for the Warden. I am not sure of the exact chapter or time reference.

Thanks. I did finish this eventually; full front page including the unseen lower half, and the full back page. All completed using articles/advertisements from a real 1966 newspaper.

Unfortunately, after six months of hard work on this page and another six months of searching I was unable to find anywhere in the UK that would print a double broadsheet page (approx 30" x 23") on newsprint in low quantities. The only option would be a real newspaper press with minimum order of 500 or 1000 copies which is serious overkill (not to mention very expensive) since I wouldn't expect to sell more than 30-40 in total!

Sometimes you just hit a brick wall and there is no way over or around it. :cry

Looks AWESOME!!!

Kurtyboy: As someone who dummied up extremely crappy fake newspapers for RPGs, I feel your pain. There's no really authentic way to make one without a movie studio budget. Still, it looks fantastic, and I hope, folded up, it makes your Shawshank display shine!

Russ: Nice reference shot!
