Serenity - QMx's Serenity Ship Papers

Fair enough, but are they going to re-issue the 'Sergeant' paper with the correct spelling?

On another note & I apologise for being so negative! But unless the Mal gun is shipped in the next 7-10 days QMX can kiss goodbye to any UK orders as the VCR (Violent Crimes Reduction) Bill comes into effect in October :(

Although that doesn't cover posters. :)

The "Sergeant" issue was mine and mine alone. It's been corrected (with special thanks to Lingarm.) I'll be happy ro replace any sheets if you would like - just shoot me a PM.

"slipped through quality control" is an interesting interpretation of "spelled differently in the script and other references than in the mind of the author".

Lingarm,

I'm not sure if my interpretation of their statement "We made a mistake" is that interesting. Most licensees verify final Proofs with the licensor before issuance as a quality control measure.

If this didn't happen, my statement is true.

If they did verify it with the "Serenity" people, and it wasn't flagged, then my statement is still true.

But since QMX says "We made a mistake.", their statement doesn't leave much room for interpretation at all.

But, my overall point was that this smells to me of a quick money grab.

Time spent doing this project is time not spent getting the Mal pistols out, so it's reasonable to wonder why they would divert themselves from the production of an actual prop replica to re-issue defective product.

Londinum versus Londinium is a legitimate crossing of wires issue straight from the mind and pen of Joss Whedon; a case where the right hand didn't know what the left brain was doing.
This was a point of Browncoat debate long before the posters,
(did Nathan say Londinum wrong or is it really Londinium).
It was N_O_T a QMx marketing ploy.

QMx has made mistakes and mis-steps, but the criticism on this board seems to escalate beyond the reality of their mis-deeds on every QMx thread.
I'm waiting for the day that someone is complaining that a QMx staffer parked his car too close to the line on one side of his parking slot and he really shoulda been working on the Mal pistol instead of parking poorly!

Really, I wish I could just get my Mal pistol so everybody can quit b*tching about the delay in producing it and start b*tching about the size, weight, color, features and whatever else doesn't suit the complainers.

Far as spelling errors on props, check the cover of Inara's "Privileges & Principals of Companion" book or "Shepard Book"s Ident card.
I printed a Book Ident card, typo and all, and had Ron Glass sign it.

Normally this all just flows by me and I don't care, but gee-s, this morning the Every-QMx-Thread-Is-A-Bash-QMx-Thread-Thing just got to me.

If QMx had listened to the nay-sayers when the money-pack maps came folded and the Mal pistol took a detour, and just quit; I wouldn't have my VERY cool blueprints and my shiny Travel Posters.
I wait for their future 'verse projects with a sense of anticipation and if some of those projects don't happen, eh, so what...

Me, I hope they stay in business, make more cool stuff, and hopefully get a little better.

Mike

Those are the ORIGINAL props with the misspellings.

I don't see why everyone gets so defensive of QMX. If I was b!tching about Walmart would you jump down my throat? Heck, let's take it to the prop world -- I see plenty of threads that b!tch about MR or Sideshow or Weta. It is the nature of consumers to discuss / b!tch at / rave about a company.

If a couple of posts at an Internet forum are enough to make a business turn tail and run, they probably shouldn't be in business in the first place.

That's why I'll stay a hobbyist. ;)

I know what you are saying and I don't usually care.
I guess it was just the "QMx creates Londinum/Londinium controversy to boost sales" thing that got me.
I agree with the right to b*tch.
Blad's comment that QMx screwed around with the Mal pistol so long that replicas got banned in England is a legitimate observation/beef

Maybe defensive IS the right word.
Firefly: cancelled
SERENITY: didn't make back its budget at the box-office
QMx: the ONLY folks making officially licensed 'verse props.....
I guess I'm gettin' a little skittish at the thought of losing yet another 'verse-y thing.

Mike

Well, I think the b!tching is greater here than anywhere else because where else would someone understand your frustration at not getting a replica? If I mention to my co-worker or my sister, "damn, I'm pissed that the Mal gun isn't out," the amount of understand they have is usually zero.

I think everyone here understands your pain, but unless you're really into licenses, you know there are other places to get your Mal goods if QMX never delivers. In fact, Firefly seems to be one of the few areas where people are still actually making replicas as opposed to just buying them.

Mike,

I didn't mean to offend or to imply that QMX created the controversy.

I do believe that they took advantage of it, which is cool to do. Lots of businesses do.

I just believe that spending time on that, while their clients wait with zero to no information on a product ordered almost a year ago is not a great use of resources.

And disrespectful to their customers.

That's all.

T.

I understand Mike's feelings about this. I was thinking the same thing before he posted it.

The thing is... I love the verse and even taking into account ALL that's available, it still isn't much compared to the likes of Trek and SW. The small arena means that QMX often gets mentioned whenever props are discussed and when that happens the thread sometimes turns into a bash-QMX-thread. If there were a hundred Firefly-prop threads going, it wouldn't matter as the negativity would be swallowed up, but there are not, so it just stands out more.

I'm not to happy about my AWOL Mal pistol and if QMX ends up screwing those of us that have paid for our guns then I'll take up my flaming torch and pitchfork too, but right now I just want to enjoy as much of the verse as possible.

Ok... here comes a little QMX defense. I'm not sure that comment is really fair. They've probably got a factory doing the Mal pistols while Whitefall has been doing the paper props. How much capability does he have to produce
hardware/cast props? Unless he's got a silicone dungeon in his basement with a few slaves to help make casts, maybe his talents are better spent where they can do the most good? If I've got a pot of tomato sauce that needs to simmer for another three hours and there is nothing I can do to speed it up, should I do nothing else during that time or should I per maybe haps start chopping up the salad?

Great, so when does the LingarN version come out? :lol

Shoot! Sorry about that, Lingarn!

I made a mistake.

But, I'll sell you a replica of my original legendary mis-spelled version for only $19.95. :angel

Here's a sample.

Lets not forget besides the Mal Guns the Abbot and Costello Drac Ring orders still have not been completely filled.

That is the most confusing part to me. How can some have been shipped, yet other have gone unfulfilled. As well, if they are not shipping because of updates to the ring and such, what happens to those rings that have already shipped?

At this point, while they offer or plan to bring some cool stuff to market, I cannot feel right about placing an order. Hopefully, for everyone interested, they straighten all of this out. However, updates that say:

Yes, that’s right. We are doing the Mal Pistol replica. And we’re busy making it better. Better, you ask? Yes, faster, stronger, um, available. Stay tuned. All we can say is it’ll be worth the wait.

This does not cut it for me as it is the same story we have heard for a long time now. I understand when a hobbyist makes something and there is a delay, but this is a company, and these delays without any information to paying customers are just discouraging.

Can we have any idea of what we are staying tuned for? A picture, a diagram, a sketch, something.

Maybe they underestimated the initial demand and now the place producing them is backed up with other jobs? Could be that way with the guns too if it's hard to find someone good to do them. Just theorizing is all.

Here's an idea:

Can't one of you guys that are stateside give 'em a call and see what's going on with the Mal guns and/or rings?

Here's the number: 1-866-623-0055

I doubt they underestimated the demand considering it was a limited run. They said how many they were going to make when they announced it.

I think that QMX would get cut a little more slack on these boards if Steve hadn't insullted the members of the RPF, then taken his ball and gone home.

I personnaly like everything that Qmx has done, I have the ships papers, the blue sun travel posters, I ordered the custom dog tag sets and plann on ordering all the BSG , Stargate and Serenity stuff they come out with next, given I havent had a bad experience with them yet like some of the other board members, and hopefully I wont. There a semi-new company so I dont know why people can compare them to companys who have star wars or trek , they've been around for alot longer, I just think that everyone should give Qmx a chance, I mean, havent they improved since they opened?

My papers are on the way as I write this (just got both an e-mail from Jessica at QMX customer service as well as a USPS shipping notice) and I wanna know more cool details from those of you that have them and other neat details on their making from Whitefall while I wait.

Actually no they haven't as was said earlier. We still haven't seen an actual prop replica successfully released yet.
