I recently aquired one of these:

And I need some help- there are just a couple of you out there who have put together one of these, so I'd like some advice:

1) What color is recommended for the red/maroon base color?

2) What did you use for the mouth/ear screen?

Any help is appreciated!

I know this is no help, but that is awesome. :love
I see one of these every once in awhile and it always make me really really want to get one. Very nice, please post some pics when you get it finished, I am sure it will be great.:thumbsup

The 'mesh' screen in the mouth and the ears appears to be nothing more than ordinary window screen. Maybe something a bit bigger - but square holes.

I'll certainly post pics as I go. If I get really crazy, I may even try to build the rest of the robot!

Gene,

Thanks for the pics! I should have known you'd have the goods! I found something that looks perfect for the screen. From your pics and the pics I have, it looks like they used at least two different types of screen for the robots. I'm using a drywall sanding sheet- the same square screen look but thicker lines and less of that over/under 'weave' pattern. Pics to come...

Funny, as I was searching for a can of gray primer in our shop for another project, I came across a can of Rustoleum American Accents paint called "Claret Wine" that would make a damn fine base coat for this.

Couple of other notes - as I look at the eyes, I noticed that the cylindrical portion of the eyes are chromed, while the edges are painted. I'm wondering (actually betting) that those chromed pieces are actually plated like chrome sunglasses. I wonder if there is a way to do this and install a new tube, or if a piece of mylar might just work.

Last fall, I was on the Disney lot and stopped by their archives. Though they had a couple of blasters, VINCent, and one of the Humanoid costumes on display, there was no sign of a Sentry Robot or STAR.

Ironic since there were more of these costumes made than any other (except perhaps the Humanoid costumes). Which brings me to another thought- I'm considering putting together a humanoid costume on a mannequin. Its just creepy enough to have some presence. It would looke exceptionally nice next to a full Sentry robot too! Mark

Thank you so much for these great close-ups of the helmet!

I'm a big "Black Hole"-fan myself and have plans to make my own Sentry Robot-costume.

As a first step, I've bought the original plaster mold plug of the torso on eBay a while ago.

Sadly, it arrived in terrible condition and is still in restoration. As soon as it's finished, I'll certainly post a few pics of it.

I'm also looking for more information of the Sentry.

I still need to know what kind of boots where used and how the arm- and leg-armor where secured to the undersuit.

I'd be also grateful for any pics you may have. I've collected a few pictures of the Sentry in the meantime as well, so I'd gladly share them with you.

Well, sadly, that one is about all I have. I mean, I have the Cinefantastique double-issue that goes in depth on the making of the movie. But apart from that, I've got next to nothing. For me, that's not a big deal. I have enough info to finish off the casting I got.

This is a rotocasting I got from the same place that Mark got his. Mine snapped off at the neck during shipping (ouch!), but it turned out to be a good thing, as it allows me access to the inside of the head to place the mesh. That's why the head is a different color than the body. And speaking of color, while I like the shade of burgundy I used for the body, I'm not crazy about how it photographs. I've bought a few different cans of paint and I'm going to see if I can get a better match. If not, I may stick with this color.

It's looking great so far... please keepall of us updated on any improvement on this.

My bust also arrived with a broken-off head, but it's now in one piece again, with a few minor repair work that's still left out.
