Senior members?

What constitutes the title 'Senior member?'
I've seen this under several member's avatars, some which have been here just a couple of years - just wondering...

Howard.

I was curious as well, but I imagine at some point it will be worked out. It seems that some who have been here since 2002 are just member where some who had joined in 2004 are a senior member.

Unfortunately, I cannot give examples as I do not remember the names of the members who I saw that had that.

It appears that the titles are being squared away. I used to be a "Senior Member", now I am a "Member"... some of those who were a "Member" before are now a "Senior Member".

Titles can assigned to groups based on a number of criteria... number of posts, member since xxxx, average posts per day, Moderator assigned... the list goes on.

Titles really don't mean much anyway.

Oops..did not see this thread. Mods...delete my other one if you can on this same subject.

I think the Senior Member title is cool. I really do not even look at it as a title...more of a recognition.

I think it is good to recognize the elders here.

I wish you would bring it back.

And it really should not be based on post count. Just based on who has been here a long time. (Since 99 or so.)

I think the mods...which a majority are elders as well...know who's who.

Please consider bringing it back.

Bah, I don't need any more stinkin reminders that I'm gettin old!

As it is I forget what I am talking about half the time.

What were we talking about again?
:confused

These are the default user titles in vBulletin.

They have to do with the amount of posts the user has, not necessarily the amount of time they've been here. They can be changed easily. :)

I figured this is fairly relevant enough so I don't have to start a new thread:

Why am I a "New Member" again? Many people are back to "New Members" yet there are a ton of people that have 0-10 posts and have no description/title under their names.

That is weird. I mean as far as some here with 0-10 having nothing under their avatar.

I am assuming it is based on post count (you having 83) that has given you "New Member" status.

But as MLTech stated, it is up to the Admins on how the titles are given.

All in all not a big deal.....just an observation on my part on how the Senior Member looked cool.

I think the Admins are too busy taking care of other more pressing issues since the migration...so no big whoop on my end on how this transpires.

I guess it is better than it stating "Really Big Member" or "Damn...that is a frinking Huge Member" or "Girls...run for your life...here comes the giant Member."

Yes of course, just a heads up though.

Does this mean that members with 0-10 post count can sell in the Junkyard? I've seen a few posts in the past few days like that. It might be fixed by now (I hope).

Someone needs to remove the "Member" thing from beneath the screen names.

:rolleyes

sheesh.

Even better...bring back the feature that allows us to add our own titles.

Appears a bit "redumdent" doesn't it? :LOL

I'm sure the guys I'll get to it. Right now try to get the permissions and defaults set right.
As for titles, IIRC that was a couple forum softwares ago (propplanet?)and was probably one of many hacks which eventually created basic operating problems, like adding new members and moving softwware to a new server! :(

This is the latest updated version of vBulletin and I understand even differs from the one we played with a bit prior to the change. BTW Our reason for the change was mostly based on security. Invision software just to hackers and Invision was of the midset that site security was the RPF's responsibility not theirs. So after hearing that, we agreed and went to vbulletin which I think will serve the forum long and well.

I used to be a "Senior Member", now I am a "Member"...
They weren't as old as I thought they were, so I change them back to just Member. :lol

What constitutes the title 'Senior member?'
If you're over X age.... ;)

Nah, the Senior Member thing is an artifact from the migration. The site automatically assigned user titles and such, and for some reason a few members got "stuck" with the Senior Member title. I've manually been changing people back, mostly after fixing password problems, but I wont be able to catch them all... flashback to Pokemon. Right now, Senior Member just means that person is really old. ;)

I'll fix them later when the dust settles.

Can I have the title Chief Cook and Bottle Washer and occasional floor sweeper placed under my screen name...
Be careful what you wish for. :)

I started off as senior member now I'm just member. I guess later I'll be dismembered.
I suggest staying away from sharp objects...:cool

Make things easy for yourselves... remove titles all together and make them Moderator assigned like on the previous software.

I started out as a Senior Member now I'm a New Member. Kind of weird for a guy thats been here six years with almost 3,000 posts.

And it really should not be based on post count. Just based on who has been here a long time. (Since 99 or so.)

I think the mods...which a majority are elders as well...know who's who.

Unfortunately the software only does it by postcount... join date is not provided as a criteria.

For that reason we'll probably get rid of them altogether...ain't nobody gonna want to manually assign 3500 members!

Actually both Senior Member and Member have been removed...yet they're still appearing. Somethin's screwy...
