Semi-working Iron Man suit

Realize that there is no real life suit, not even in the movies.

They either have soft bendy foam suits worn by the actors, which have no working internal mechanics at all. These are also only partial suits, even the Mark III worn by stuntmen weren't complete and had to be enhanced here and there.

Or they have completely computer generated suits, that intersect and bend all around and it is also impossible to fit a real human being inside them.

You can not build working suits. There are many practical, anatomical reasons for that. It's just movie magic.

Killjoy...

:p

(I'll reply to everyone else's replies tomorrow)

I'm a 3D character modeler and I've had to build an Iron Man suit for the intro cinematic of the - canceled - Avengers video game, so I'm talking from experience as well. These suits are completely, totally impossible to build in real life :)

Iron man impossible? If talking about the film ones... then yes. If you want to make an Iron Man-ISH 'armor' plating, then no, it's not impossible, but you will need to have a LOT adjusting parts (more engineering). But even if you don't cover EVERY inch of the suit, it's not going to matter. That's what MK 2 is all about ;)

JUST START BUILDING :D

all is possible with technology, like Howard says

If you want to build it I say go right ahead n dont listen to no one including myself saying ya cant.

Even if it turns out that the suit does not turn out to be what you intended, I have already gained quite a bit of insight into some aspects of both practical and aesthetic suit building, from all the debate generated. Well, could be because I am a novice, but still...! :D It's definitely gonna be quite a challenge for you, but these are the most interesting to watch. Keep it going, and good luck!

I was never originally planning on making real repulsor rays, for obvious reasons. But after talking to one of my friends about it, I've decided that I am going to make a version of them. Not exactly as they are in the films; I'm not that ambitious, despite what it might seem. But I wanted something that would shoot and be 'lasery', yet at the same time produce an actual force, so I couldn't just use a powerful laser (plus that would be really dangerous and impractical). So we eventually decided on something very simple, not particularly dangerous, yet hopefully quite cool.

You can get little explosive caps that children throw on the ground, creating a bang (called Bang Snaps). So the idea is simply to have a basic air cannon on the underneath of my forearm, which shoots those explosive caps. It won't be very dangerous, but I expect it will be cool enough to satisfy my desire to have 'repulsor rays.' Though if anyone has any suggestions for how to make them a bit more flashy (while keeping them reasonably safe), that would be much appreciated.

Shoot gun cotton. It's easily ignited, and makes a solid flare which is quite safe. Super simple. I'd advise against anything that works like a potato cannon for the 'whoomp', simply in case you accidentally fire it into a local sheriff's yard. Which I may have experience with. Or a friend. It's all pretty spotty, can't even remember what state it was in. Or country?
