Sculpting A Galaxy--Got it!

I received a review copy of Scultping a Galaxy: Inside the Star Wars Modeling Shop yesterday. Very nice book. The Chronicles is still king, but you modeling guys are going to like this one. It covers all six films, including most of the ships and some characters like Watto, droidekas, some buildings, and even ROTS Vader. There are nice foldouts for the Falcon and AT-AT. The pix are solid, but there's roughly one to a customer, except for certain items, again, like the Falcon . Nuts like us I'm sure would like ten pages on each item. It's exactly like Dressing a Galaxy, but with models.

Also like Dressing, there are pages of thumbnail size Index photos in the back I wish were full size, including the top section of the Vader mask sans helmet.

Some pix below.

Thanks for the advanced review... I'm literally chompin at the bit for this book. What is the actual street release date???

Dave :)

Thanks for the heads up. I still haven't bought Dressing the Galaxy, but I'll be pciking this up ASAP.

Four Vader pix. Full page publicity shot of the face and helmet, he's kinda looking down, and the rest are screen grabs from ROTS: the Anakin POV of the mask coming toward his face, above shot of the mask coming towards burnt-up Ani's kisser, and Vader on the table. Nothing great, but the text does give some info on the found parts Don Bies used for some of the mask's interior.

Shot a pick of the mask info, etc., with my digicam.

This one stinks, but you get an idea of what the pix look like. Snowspeeder

No lightsabers or blaster. It's 95% ships/vehicles plus some set models/critters/droids.

I'm surprised it doesn't mention Ivo Coveney and his crew in costume props who were responsible for redesigning and producing the Vader helmet and armor based on the OT helmet. That to me is as important as detailing the interior. Perhaps helmet making is not model making? :confused

Again, the title should be "Kit Bashing a Galaxy" :lol I wonder how much of it includes designs based on sculptures versus model-making?

I think they just added that token Vader stuff in there just so they can say he was included as a selling point. That's why I posted it, to show the Vader heads that there wasn't much to it and to save their dough if they're not into the models.

Nonetheless, it is a beautiful book.

It's $50. The pix are quite nice, but again, there's really just a single pic of most things. There are a few more of Tie and Xwings, but not much and they are just macro shots of the models. Don't expect cockpit details, etc. There's none of that. If you're a diehard model guy it''s probably worth the investment, but if not, you should browse it in a book store before shelling out $50 for it sight unseen.

Anything new of the Boushh costume? Are there any costume pics? Like the sculpting of the masks or anything like that?

I'd rather have pictures of the model MAKERS actually working on the items too rather than just the finished models. I love shots like them putting the fiberoptics in all the Stardestroyer windows and molding the stop-motion Taun-Taun. That is what the book should be, but we already have a lot of shots like that in CHRONICLES.

What tag does the book carry? Is it worth the loot?
[/b]

Overstock.com has it for $29.93

Cool, thanks for all that. I think Ill probably pass on it for now based on what you've said. Im not a diehardmodel guy so its probably not worth it for me.
