Scratchbuilt Wipeout Feisar ship (Round Two)

Hey, Michael... OK, someone MUST have thought of this before...

in making this did you unwrap the videogame 3D model to use as a template? The idea to use a texture map or unwrapped 3D model wireframe to use a a template would be great at making real world scale models... just think of all these awesome old school game vehicles. I know it's been done with papercraft, but to see vehicles from old school Psygnosis games like Wipeout, Colony Wars or G-Police... hell, even HOMEWORLD would be sweet. Thanks!

I suppose knowing how to hack into the game and use a program to pull up the wireframe could work, but I surely have no idea how to do something like that.
I just looked everywhere online for various pictures and also, in Wipeout HD, at anytime while racing, you can pause it and go into picture mode. There you can rotate, zoom in, and whatever, then save as a pic. So I have a lot of ref pics. But in the end, I still wanted to make it my own version of the Feisar ship.
I really looks like it could be dropped right in the game.

That's right... Wipeout HD picture mode must have been priceless for this project. Do you plan on making any more? Thanks!

Probably not anything from Wipeout...other video games, sure. But I have a lot to learn still. One I have thought about is the Shinra Rocket from Final Fantasy 7....but I really need to look it over and see if I could pull it off. Not sure yet.

The first time I knew anything about Wipeout was that they used an early version of the game in the film Hackers:

In fact, here's the footage:

And, of course, can't have it without some more awesome music:

I happen to own the game on Playstation, as a part of my video game collection. Snagged it for $3, with its original case and all. :)

Jedimichael,
This model came out FANTASTIC!! Great thread, I just looked through it, you really did a great job!

Thanks all, I really appreciate it.
That Hackers movie, never have seen it. Really great that early Wipeout was in it. I'm sure that helped sells as well. I remember reading that in trying to hype up the Playstation as a new system and to a bit older generation. Sony brough Playstations in clubs mainly playing Wipeout. With the high speed racing and great electro music, really helped out.

Great build, looks just right.
The reason I bought a PlayStation was from playing Wipeout in a London club back in the day. Sigh! Showing my age now.
Wish they'd do a Ps4 version

Haha, so the club thing worked on you. Sony was pretty smart in that.

Oh yeah it worked alright. Haha
Leftfield, The Chemical Brothers and Orbital pounding on the game soundtrack

As a fan of the first Wipeout game, i always thought those ships would make good models, but never actually got around to making one. Kudos for yours, it looks fabulous

Alright, so the white decal paper was finally in stock, so got the last ones printed out. But now I'm running into a few problems. First, one of the decals curled on the edges so bad, I couldn't use it. I'm glad I printed a few just incase. I also noticed a few I out on the other week are coming up just a tiny bit.
One issue I found out I did wrong was keeping them in the water for too long. Not much I can do about that now. I read on a site about this stuff called Micro-set and Micro-sol. They seem to be of help when applying the decal. But can I use one of them over the decals that are already on the model to help glue it better in to place and keep it there? or did I mess up too much already?
I'm sure theres got to be something to help.
And I'm hoping the remaining decals don't curl up on me. I did spray the sheet with Testors decal bonder spray before cutting them out and putting in the water. Infact, after I had the one mess up, I sprayed the remaining ones again just to make sure.

Happy easter to everyone.

So i went ahead and got the rest of the decals on. Yeah, i was soaking them in water way to long. I still want to to make sure they wont peel off in the future. Ill post pics later when i get home.

Bump to get to the next page.

Finished!!!!

So.....heres a bazillion pics from different angles.

The stand. Thanks to Mike J for that final layout.

Not sure how many saw the last few post on the last page, but I just am hoping to see if there is something to cover the decals incase of peeling, as I kinda was doing it wrong at first.

Micro-sol and micro-set are for decals, but I think they're for use during application, not after drying.

I'd recommend a careful clear coat, once you're sure the decals are dry. Say, a few days?
