This thing is looking great and I am giving you props for doing this. Not actual props but figurative props.

Wow! It's coming along veeeery nicely! That baby is going to be HUGE! Especially once you add the warp nacelles.

I love this. Now, is this a one off model or do you plan on making molds and doing her in fiberglass?

Re: Scratchbuilding USS Excelsior - 1:350 *updated photos* 01/02

thanks for all comments, I have added filler to the upper saucer ribs and sanded smooth, a few holes are present so I will spot fill it tomorrow, sand then prime and see where we are. As far as making molds, this was only ever intended as a test model to see if I could actually scratch build a scale model, but you never know...

Re: Scratchbuilding USS Excelsior - 1:350 *updated photos* 01/02

I hope to be back on this project very soon, had a few other things to finish up but I'm keen to pick it up again

Re: Scratchbuilding USS Excelsior - 1:350 *updated photos* 01/02

this is looking real good so far, definitely a challenging build. Are you going to light it up?.. Steve Neill did a Enterprise B build and posted quite a few videos of it on his blog...

Oh my gosh, an update! :lol

Here is a long overdue update to the Excelsior, these photos are actually quite old now in fact! You can see the saucer has been foam filled and then the filler layer has been applied over it and sanded smooth, I just wedged the bridge section in there to give a rough idea and the second photo shows everything together so far, hope you enjoy, if only there was more time to work on everything at once! Thank you for all the positive comments so far :thumbsup

Beautiful work!
One question, are you sure this is 1:350? I'd have thought Excelsiors saucer would be at least half again as wide as Enterprises?

Or maybe i'm just being obtuse?:behave

Rich

Thought as much....! Do you have 1:350 scale blueprints for the big build?

Rich

I have learnt through quite a bit of research that Excelsiors scale in all incarnations is a bit all over the place, the test model however is built at exactly 50% of my measurments for 1:350, for example the saucer diameter is currently 11 inches so it will end up being 22! I think I am slightly mad building 2 but its fun, at the moment :lol

Will be watching this. I kind of hate Trek ships, but make an exception for the Ex. And the NX01, and the Akira, and the C, and the D, and the BoP, and the Merchantman, uh, what the heck was I saying? :lol

Nice work so far. I'd say chuck it and get started on the big 'un!

Any new updates on this model build? I am currently building a 1:350 Enterprise-C and I would love to see how YOUR'S is going. :)
