Scratch build Mandalorian armour

This is my first post on RPF.
I’m a complete newbie to anything costume/prop related, but have some basic knowledge of some making skills.

I’m probably biting off more than I can chew, but I will be forging my armour from actual steel. I have some blacksmithing experience, but again have never attempted armour.

I’ve made some templates from what I have managed to find online, and also made some cardboard mock ups to get a feel of how the final shape might look. Helmet image attached, and yes I’m aware I haven included any details, I was working towards basic form.

I shall post pictures as I go (hopefully).

I am wondering if any others here have attempted a similar build and what problems you may have encountered?

What I’d really like to know though is how does the armour plate mount to the under armour? Do I get creative or is there an accepted way to do it?

Industrial strength Velcro or magnets, from what I’ve seen. You may want to check out the dented helmet, or mandalorian mercs, you’ll find a ton of useful info there. Good luck I’m looking forward to seeing your progress

Thanks man!
Much appreciated.

I started with the lower part of the breastplate. Admittedly, I’m not going for 100% canon, but something close
For a first attempt is close enough for now.

Base material: steel oil drum
Cut out from template and shaped,
Chiselled the gold lines and formed to shape.

The top part of the breast plate. Same stencil pattern and techniques. Lots of tactical chisel lines and folds on this. The next issue will be to address the hole in the centre and weld the edges where they form corners.

So I decided to start again. After a bit of research and a bit of artistic licensing, I made my template to fit me. Note the stomach plate is in 5xL!

I initially started out trying to replicate Din Djarin. But I have defideced I’m going to go generic and custom colours too.

Once’s I’ve made the leg plates and forearms things (greaves?!) then I will add detail to before priming and painting.

Deadline is November comic-con Birmingham U.K.
