Thanks for everyone's help on the boards as I recieved alot of information about were to get the right equipment and clothing.

Most everything's done, just need to weather the pants up more and should be set.

Looks outstanding - thanks for sharing! (and excellent job on your M1 weathering, BTW) :)

Ironically my M43 jacket arrived in the mail today. Just one step closer to my Market Garden setup..... :cool

I was thinking of doing market garden but decided ultimately to replicate soldiers from S.P.R.

Lookin good - especially the facial expression in the first pic, 'cept the Thompson should be an M1A1 not an M1928.

Nice setup. Is the Thompson a MGC? The more accurate Thompson is a M1A1, which you can get a airsoft version from Tokyo Marui.

Yeh I was going to get the M1A1 but I found this one 1st and it was cheaper than the airsoft M1A1. Ill eventually get the correct model Thompson but for now this will do.

Bothan beat me to the only note I had on it, the Thompson M1A1 is the accurate SMG, but save for a few gun nuts no one's ever gonna tell! Jeeze that came out perfect Tim, nice work man! The weathering is fantastic, really looks like ya just crawled up a beach. Little different kinda deal doin up a suit like that, I had a WW2 helmet, bayonet and a few other things, when ya have that stuff on it's hard not to imagine what it was like to be there. Again, fantastic job on everything Tim!

Thanks man its was alot of fun finding new ways to weather the suit up.

I took a ton of screen caps from the movie of Captain Millers suit and from scene to scene it changes a ton ( lights to dark) partially wet, sandy, dusty, oily. So its was kinda of tough to really nail it down.

I decided to give certain parts of the suit different weathering techniques all across the board so it really gave it that battle worn feel. I used alot of (Talc) powerd to dust the boots helmet and assault vest. Alot of the scene's the soldier were very "chalky" looking from allhe blown up bits of building. I also wanted to give the assault vest an oily look to it so I vasalined the crap out of it in specifc area's to recreate that look from the movies. I wanted to match the colors of his suit as much as possable but that proved to be damn near impossable since their wasnt a standard "khaki" color, or Olive drag (OD). Instead they had a bazillion different shades of kahki, it boiled down too choosing dead on accurate equipment with wrong shade colors, or hunting on ebay trying to find the right shade and possable not getting exactly right piece of equipment.

All in all it was a fun piece to examine and learn about.

That's the frustrating thing I've also learned in putting together some of my pieces. There's no absolute, 100%, super-duper authentic master shade of olive drab/khaki. Even the same factories would spit out variations in their supposed master shades of OD 3 or 7 depending on the fabric or dye mixtures.

The best one can do is simply try to pick the best quality vendor and decide which style uniform you want to go with. (assuming your purchasing repo for your impression) While different lighting and weather conditions played into part of what you were seeing, I'd be willing to bet that even Tom Hanks and the rest of the recurring characters' uniforms didn't always match up from scene-to-scene during the movie.

exactly my thinking as well, lucky I was pointed to ww2 reporduction company that made high end quipment and material, so everything was spot on.

Not to hijack the thread but I keep seeing that link to the Star Tours and finally checked it out. Way cool.
So as not to COMPLETELY derail this thread great job on the uniform. Your attention to detail really pulls it altogether. I always like putting stuff together in that era including the everyday clothes as well. I may have to put one of these together sometime myself. Great job dude!

Yeh a put that lil video together a few years ago via request of some friends that could never get to disneyland and actually see the ride 1st hand.

You acknowledge that the Thompson smg you use is the early model and not correct for SPR (that's the Denix model, yes?) and yes, it will do but you can bring the look closer by fitting a real 30 rnd magazine (easily available from most militaria shops for around £15.00). I have little personal experience of the Denix model and you may have to do some adjusting but it will be well worth your effort as the real mags always look better anyway. Enjoy!

Yeah that entire suit was done on a quick budget for halloween. Fully aware all the pieces were completely off, was trying to nail down the weathering more than anything else.

PS: thanks to all the real soldiers for their service!
