Sauron´s Helmet

I put this in this forum, though I am looking to buy one, too.

Has anyone ever heard that someone has made a wearable helmet from Sauron? Or is there an official wearable one available somewhere?

The actual prop in the film was also ridiculously large, seriously I saw it in person once, the entire costume was immense, around 7-7.5 ft tall I would say :thumbsup

Here's the thread about the one that I'm still working on.

Between the statues and the photo reference I've collected, I'm of the opinion that the UC helmet is not that accurate. My suspicion is that it was a working sculpt. It lacks the fine detail visible on screen and detailed on the statues. The UC surface is very rough and organic where every other version is crisp and smooth.

Once I get a bit of free time, I have to rework the back of my new one to make it more accurate.

At the ones who have one:

Is the helmet comfortable to wear? Does it fit well inside, or is it too heavy after a while?

unless you're a pretty large person I will say no, its not comfortable to wear. It is padded inside, but its so large that (at least on my head) its a balancing act. And indoors I need to crouch to keep it from hitting the ceiling in certain parts of my house.

Ok, thanks for the info ^^

I´m not going to wear it in the house.. I´m planing do go as Sauron to Halloween next year, and other outdoor events.

if at all possible, I would highly suggest getting BlindSquirrel's when its done - it seems to be much more "wearer friendly"...

I thought his helmet is gonna be a One-Of-A-Kind-Personal helmet.
Or does you produce more to sell them, Squirrel?

I did make one. And it's very light and very wearable, though not accurate.

I made it out of craft foam.

All the pieces come off and velcro together.

*L* It's so light my son was able to wear it when he was 4 years old.

And yeah, Toby made one, but it weighed like 10 lbs or something. It's wearable, but had metal and gapoxio.

UC's was cast off a weta supplied version, either a left ove3r or the cast one from the original molds for us (may be where detail was lost). I'm not sure how much detail it was lacking. I think some of the statues were embelished upon as well, I've seen the touring suit up close (UC guys got to go in the exhibit after hours and take some pictures) it was a little nicer but not much. If you think that helmet was big and heavy you should have seen the mace.

I have a United Culery version. It's HUGE.Detail is amazing too.I dont know if I have original papers for it tho.PM me an offer.ThanksTom

I don't have any plans to make copies at this time. My mold-making skills aren't up to that kind of job plus it would be crazy expensive (for me) to get enough silicone for the job.

It's a crime! your helmet seems wonderful indeed - but I agree with you about the price of silicone! :lol

Even I would not recomend to use a UC helmet as a costume part: too heavy, too large and (i guess! I love it too much to test its hardness!) too fragile to be used in some way. The same problem for the UC witchking helmet, by the way.

The UC helmet is Fiberglass and resin. Drop that sucker and it's all over (we dropped one of the protos to see what happens, little pieces everywhere).
