All the costumes look great. But this contest is a farce, it will be nothing more than he who has the most Facebook buddies voting for them. I refuse to advertise mine that way as I would rather someone vote because they actually like my costume, not because I have a lot of fake friends on the internet who vote for me. Not to mention multiple accounts etc. So I will pass on "voting" contests next time.

I would say you are mistaken. My own brother in law,while visiting the site, contacted the rpf after he discovered some loop holes in the voting. Even after the votes were reset. The same votes were pretty close only in smaller numbers. I went from 39 to 2. Then to 9. Sure i didnt even get what I hoped for in votes but man in comparison to all these other builds I'm proud to even be in the running.Plus I was able to give some exposure to my friends and family for the rpf.
Its not the integrity of the contest that your putting in question.It's the integrity of the person or people. Most everyone here has the integrity to do the right thing. Ive seen that when someone doesn't they are outed and they usually don't show up again. Its sad that it came down to this but I call it an opportunity. We'll learn from it and move on.:thumbsup

Concerning the contest, I am glad the RPF did it again this year and I applaud the decisions that they made while it was underway.

Lot of votes, or no votes -- it just doesn't make that much of a difference to me. Sure, everyone loves winning... but, for me, I've won. I have a very unique costume, and, I finished it by the deadline. That is a HUGE win for me!

I'd much rather have a few votes from fellow board members here who actually appreciate what appears to be a (deceptively!) simple costume than a few hundred votes from folks I recruited around the web who will merely glance at the outfit and think 'that doesn't look that hard to do.'

Your mileage may vary, of course.

Thanks, guys. We are still learning when it comes to the contest and while it IS a contest, for many of us, it is just an opportunity to see a ton of amazing costumes all in one place and a chance to get a true feel for the diversity and creativity the members of this community have to offer. Best of all, you learn new things! I had never heard of Matt Mason before this contest and it was really cool to see that toy turned into a life-size costume!

Having to switch over to registered members only voting was painful but had to be done. We are already working on a completely new system for next year! We hope you will enter again and have something new and awesome to share!

On a final note, I wouldn't necessarily take the number of votes any particular costume got as an indicator of the quality of the costume. I can tell you, the costume I was most impressed by got surprisingly few votes. I am sure a lot of different factors play into it; popularity of the character, recognizability, quality of the photo, etc. If anyone didn't get a lot of votes, don't let it dishearten you in any way!

I don't know what it is about contest here on the RPF that it always seems to go in the direction of 2 or 3 entrants running way out in front and nearly nothing for the remainder. I think it would be a good idea not only to not show the voting tally as the contest is running, but at the end only post the number of votes for the winners, or maybe the top 5. That way no one is hurt or discouraged because of low vote count. When the caliber of entrants are this high, everyone is a winner!

I was not mistaken by any means, in fact someone posted proof that the female winner begged for votes on a blog, which means the contest was manipulated and only won because of that. I could have done that too, and on forums etc, but like I said I have integrity and did the "right thing." I don't need the prize that badly that I have to beg other people to vote on a costume. I like contests and I have won several with my costume, and I don't even care if someone wins over me, as long as it is a legitimate and "fair" win, which in this case it is not. So I hope they make a lot of improvements next year to filter out popularity contests and other methods that could have been used to compromise the integrity of the contests. Anytime you give people power to vote, and a big prize is involved, you can bet some people are going to cheat and try and take advantage of loopholes, which also was proven.

Also resorting to trashing someone else's costume and claiming they did not make it, and that their bf did should be totally unacceptable. Yet the RPF rewarded all this behavior. Pretty sad. The only people "mistaken" were the people who assumed no one would try and take advantage of said loopholes. But whatever, I am done with the topic. I will just stay out of the contest next year and not waste my time if it is based on peer vote begging, it is that simple.

Frankly, it was fun to share my costume and I'm very proud of the work I put in on it. It would not be possible without the help and support of the fine people in the RPF community. Also, thanks to the RPF for putting on the contest and encouraging people of all skill levels to show off their work.

Most importantly, all of the costumes were amazing and very creative. Thanks for sharing them with the rest of us and hopefully we can do it next year.

I would prefer that we be allowed to vote for as many entries as we wish and change our votes as the contest progresses so that as it gets narrowed down to a few clear leaders we can chose which of them we wish to throw our support behind.

I think that would be a really interesting way of voting. I still think you're going to get people who take offense at how the voting is faring but it seems like it would be worth trying this way of voting at least once to see what happens. So far there's been plenty of drama with this contest the 2 years it's been put on so what's a little more?

Also I have been really curious about this:

Compared to the amount of visitors and members of the RPF what is the percentage of votes? I mean, out of all the people who view the RPF is there a way to tell how many are actually voting? Because it doesn't seem like the votes are large enough to make up even half of the members here but I could be completely wrong about that and with the amount of entrants the votes could just be spread out and be much larger then I realize. I wonder if 2 or 3 rounds of voting would become unnoticed after a while on the RPF? Maybe there needs to be more attention drawn to the voting other then the stuck threads? Like a banner or something? I know there was a banner for entering your costume but I don't recall anything really standing out about voting for the contest. Dunno.....I could just be full of hogwash lol so take this comment with a grain of salt hahahah!

I think it would help a lot if the tally was hidden and members were not allowed to post who they voted for, that way no one but mods/admins would know who was winning until the contest ended. I also think there should be some kind of "good sportmanship" rule where disrespecting any other entrant is grounds for disqualification. Is there any reason to be mentioning the other entrants at all, good, bad or indifferent, while you're asking for votes and promoting the site?

@Eveningarwen: There's a total number of votes at the bottom of the list. There was 692 votes in the male contest, 764 in the female contest, and 502 for the kiddies. --That might be another thing to add, you have to vote in all categories for your vote to count ---I throw out all these suggestions having absolutely not idea of the logistics of any of them!? Easier said than done most of them probably.

Anyway, that is a VERY small percentage of the active members here, which is just over 35, 000 according to the RPF Statistics on the index page.
