Rowdy Roddy Piper Costume Interest

Hey everyone. Can someone help me out and point me in the right direction or just give me some general tips for making a Rowdy Roddy Piper costume for Halloween? So far all I have is the red ringer t-shirt (still gotta figure out how to get "HOT ROD!!" on it) and knee pads. My friends and I might do an "80's classic wrestlers" group thing. I was originally gonna be The Ultimate Warrior since I was a fan, and do have a decent build for it. However, its pretty cold here in NYC by now, and I don't feel like walking around wearing only leather boots, briefs and bicycle streamers lol.

Rowdy Roddy seems a little bit easier. I'll probably get the biker jacket he wore sometimes as well (seeing as how I'm gonna be wearing a kilt and all).

What I'm most curious about is the belt and the shoes. The belt is different in a lot of pictures. I'm guessing I should just go with a Scottish-themed buckle. The kilt shouldn't be that difficult to find on ebay (I am kinda doing this on the cheap I'll admit).

So yeah, any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Well, cheap and easy way to do the "HOT ROD" is Iron on printouts. It won't look amazingly great or anything, but they get the job done.

There are two Hot Rod shirts on ebay right now. Not cheap though.

and there is a belt and buckle that would work. Item number 160370976160 Pretty cheap.

Look for wrestling or boxing boots. They are out there. Probably not the patten leather looking boots like he wears though.

You probably won't get a matching tartan for cheap as I think Piper's is a generic plaid, probably purchased off the table at a random fabric store the WWF wardrobe Dept frequents... Something red and similar like a Royal Stewart may be your best bet.

While the selection isn't the greatest, stillwater kilts has a decent product for dirt cheap. here's the $28.00 version.

And the better $75.00

The belt, as Otter mentioned, is a standard kilt belt.

Thanks for the quick responses guys!! The kilt even comes with the bag to. I had a few more ideas on the back burner, but now I know how to get almost everything I need for this. Still having trouble finding the iron on "Hot Rod" though. I may just print it out and tape it to the shirt. Paint it in bright paint for *somewhat* accuracy.

No If you can find the graphic, kinkos and office depot sell iron on transfer paper for your inkjet printer.

Met Roddy, real nice down to earth guy :thumbsup. GL on the costume.

Roger that. I met him at Dragon Con one year, back before everybody and their brother was wearing Utilikilts. He told me he liked mine and I had a reverse fanboi reaction and clammed up and didn't say much.

He probably thought I was a jerk. :unsure

Thought I'd share a few pics with you guys. I actually ran into TWO other guys dressed as Piper. Neither of them were as detailed as mine, though one guy did have a wig on. One group of 4 guys were all classic wrestlers. One was The Ultimate Warrior, Piper, Ric Flair, and Dibiase. ME and my friend Joe were only two though, he was the Warrior. Joe's costume was better than the guy I saw, since Joe was wearing a full muscle suit, and the other guy had on a t-shirt and spandex pants.
