Hi all, first replica post so nice to meet you!
The props I have been making are heavily based around 3D printing, so please keep that in mind. I have also been releasing the files for free, so others can make them.
I first designed the ring in CAD:

I choose to use a different iris mechanism than appears to be used in the movie, because I felt that this iris mechanism would 3D print and assemble much easier (with this design I was able to make the iris blades much thicker and easier to handle).
Then I 3D printed the parts, did a lot of sanding, filling and primed the parts:

After that, it was painting and assembly. Here are some images of the final product:
