OK...I have decided I want to build a scale replica of the Ancient Roman Forum and the Theatre of Pompey (two different projects).
I have never actually attempting model making in this manner before and am glad I found this site.
I hope to get some input on where to start, what materials are best, what scale is best, and any tricks and suggestions I can get.
This is to be a project for an educational video for Youtube. No budget...or more accurately very little money. So I will take advantage of every step in some way or another. For example I am sure I will need at least two versions. Small scale and larger scale. The final larger scale must be small enough to be feasible and large enough to be filmed from ground level with a small hand held HD camcorder.
One thought was to use oven bake clay...then I realized I don't even really need that. Regular fire glazed clay will still harden and is cheaper for larger quantities.
I am figuring the larger models will be wood framed boxes covered with sculpted and painted clay. So the more I think about it....regular seems to heavy.
Any ideas?
