Okay I know you can get the rocketter jet pack from MIM...but know the shady past they have...where else can one get one?
Or is that it? And if so how long does it take to get one from them and are they at least trust worthy of getting you the pack with all the pieces in tact and in a timely fashon?

Rather not get one from them...so where?

Mike

yeah I was wondering abt this as well
Heard abt MiM stuff and the same shady history - man the price they are askin for is also way beyond my budget!?

I know Kropserkal had a dsiplay pack a while back, might be worth pm'ing em
altehrnatively, a few guys I have spoken to have taken to scratch building em.

hopefully other finheads can chime in with other options.

Rocketbobs is the man, when it comes to those packs.

I ordered the helmet kit from MIM and it took forever to get to me. As for the pack, besides MIM, the only place I've seen them (finished that is) is on ebay and they do not come cheap anywhere.

I'm not sure if Bob hangs out here as much anymore... I haven't seen him in a while. If Bob is slow in responding, let me know and I can point you to the same source.

Keep in mind that building the pack is not for the faint of heart. Not only is the kit expensive, but you'll also have to source lots of found items to finish it off properly. I've got that list, too. :)

You can say that again!!! My most $$$$$ costume to date... and still not 100% happy with it! I know I have well OVER $2,600 wrapped up in my full costume at the moment, but I know I'll probably invest atleast another $1,000 into it before I'll be totally happy with it. Just be carefull what you wish for! :lol

I think your outfit looks awesome! As one of only a handful of guys to have a complete costume, you should be proud of you accomplishment. :thumbsup

My jacket hangs in the closet, my boots are in the storage room, and my pack is scattered around my workbench. My helmets are displayed proudly in my office, but otherwise I'm still a long way from my dream costume. :unsure

I've got a couple of PMs from people, but I'm heading out the door and will respond to everyone later.

Until then, here is Evan's great build diary. He is a member here, but I haven't seen him post in a long time. Maybe if he sees this, he'll chime in. I think that a lot of the info I'll hand out is on this site.

Oh trust me, I'm not complaining! I LOVE that costume, it was one of my dream costumes to have since I first saw the movie in the theater. For a costume that doesn't have that many parts to it, is very surprising in costs once you get into the thick of it. :lol

But I had a lot of fun building everything and the small group of core Finheads are amazingly helpful with the small unknown details. My costume could not have been made without them!

I am still trying to get the Finhead forum back off the ground, there are a couple people that have started posting again.

I'm glad you asked about this, Mike. I had the same question!

MiM has such a shoddy reputation, I'd rather deal with someone else for a Cirrus X-3 Rocket Pack.

Evan's jetpack build is inspirational. :)

this is my dream project....ive had a helmet for years....and thats as far as ive gotten :lol

Thanks for the link to Evan.org.

I've also been wanting to start on a rocketeer costume. I'm starting slow though. I've already got the pants (ACTUAL boyscout jodhpurs from 1914 which are still in AMAZING shape). I'm looking to get the jacket next. Which source is better, Wested or south beach? After that I'll get the accurate boots even though I have a cool pair of US Calvary boots from the 30's. They're laceups but they still look cool. I wouldn't wear the full costume until it was completed perfectly anyways.

South beach leather jacket is decent...It is cheap, but holds up well..Not sure if it is real lamb leather..It looks like a cheap imitation of real leather...
Wested is step above the south beach leather jacket...more durable and more expensive...
