Ladies and germs, for the ones who didn't make it to Dragon*Con this year, there was a guy dressed as ROBOCOP (first time I've seen one in person), and it was awesome. He was marching at the parade this year.

Does anyone knows who is he, and / or if he's a member here? Any info will be awesome. I had a brief talk with him (in spanish) just before the parade.

here is a pic from a members DC pic link.

That or Robo was just walking so slow that people got tired of him and moved on to the next group. I know my Robo suit was a b*tch to walk in.
I always wante to modify mine to be more wearer friendly but I ended
up selling it. To bad as they aren't being made anymore.

you said he spoke Spanish.
then he would be Robo Hombre, or Mecho Policio correct . :rolleyes

A member of my garrison said he'd be going to Dragoncon this year with his robocop costume. Don't think this was him though, here's his website for some comparison: http://www.legionxxiv.org/robocop.htm

I know Old SARGE OBERON for a couple of years now, specially from his amazing Cylon Costume from Battlestar Galactica. I didn't know he owned two sets of RC armor in the past, though.

Actually, the main reason of this posting is to search for the RC fiberglass armor maker in the UK, which v.1 sounds like the best lead so far (the blue-silver armor) of the comparison shots. Not sure what actually included in the new version between v.1 and 2 based on SGT Oberon's pics though. But REALLY interesten in links, contacts, etc...no matter the price. ;)

Well, I don't know what to answer about this one, but it's hillarious! LOL

Actually, he was a really friendly guy, and he talked to me really briefly (based on all the cameras before the parade at D*C, though) I was dressed as a Scout, but somehow we started talking in SPANISH, though. We kept the conversation for about 1 1/2 minute, but the only thing I remember he said, is that the armor was made from a guy in ENGLAND....that's about it, until we were called to take our positions for the parade.

The maker of the Robocop armor in England was Bruce Hansing.
But alas, he is no longer making them. He has moved onto other
things. I know he was big itno doing things from the Alien films
as well. A great craftsman for sure..........

I'm in the middle of getting mine.. as can be seen by the pic, I only have half of the armor so far. :lol

But, I unless i'm getting the last one, he's still making them. But he's definitely not focusing on them. So it'll take a while because he focusing his attention elsewhere.

Some asked the difference between "version 1" and "version 2" of his armor. Bruce recently fixed up his molds a bit and fixed some of the detail on his armor. Some of the things that I have noticed are a cleaned up vent on the right side of the chest. and cleaned up details in the shoulders and hips especially where the circles are in those areas.

In terms of colors, there are two colors to choose from. Silver from Robocop 1 and a bluish/sliverish color from Robocop 2/3. The armor itself is the same either way, the paintjob is the only difference.

I have an older suit that I want to retool... does anyone know what type of screws/rivets are used? My costume's detail is poor & I want to replace those details... thanks in advance :thumbsup

Yes, Bruce is still producing suits, but you have to seek him out... he doesn't make his presence very well known.

IIRC, he had the original stunt suit molds from the first film (minus the soft armor, the molds long thought destroyed) which, after almost 20 years had begun to crap out a few years back, so he began the retooling process.

For a while he had done some rather strange and inaccurate retooling of the helmet, adding two etched lines (instead of the inset band) around the head and making the back venting a separate plate despite being one piece in the original film.

It's been a while since I've brushed up on my RC suit info, but the RoboCop1/2 suits were different other than paint. The RC2 suits were much more refined (mostly for comfort and movement) but additional details, such as two pin holes on the shapes above the pecs and bolts lining the outer thigh details were added, along with new inner thigh clips.

The most notable difference however, was RC1's latex jaw, which was replaced with fiberglass in RC2 (and kept for the sequels/tv show) and was attached to the helmet.

The RC2 suit was also much more symmetrical.

In RC3 they saved money by reusing Peter Weller's suit for Robert John Burke (he was actually cast as Weller's replacement because almost all of his measurements were an exact match) so with the exception of a newly sculpted helmet (which is the version which had the separated back venting Bruce Hansing introduced to his suits) the suits in RC2/3 were identical (and not RC1/2)

It looks like Bruce has fixed the detailing on his new helmets, though, so that's cool.

In addition to Bruce's hard armor, there's a handful of useful fans out there producing the soft armor bits (ranging from gloves to elbow covers to shoulder soft armor) so there's options for those. There are also additional options for the shoulder clips and leg pistons, so you can get those in resin/aluminum as well. There could also be a couple of sound boards floating about for adding footsteps and mechanical movement noises, but I've yet to actually see one for sale.

I still remember asking Bruce a few years back (when he was still making them from the original molds) and pricing back then was roughly $1600 for a completed suit, which seemed pricey back then, now it's a deal. :(

Quick side note: Most suit owners now claim to keep the upper arms from sliding down with their gloves, but on the original suits Rob Bottin had an extra foam latex piece on the shoulders of the spandex undersuit, which "plugged" into the top of the arm and the inset circle, and provided upper arm support, leaving the gloves free for movement. If anyone's serious about investing into one of these I'd suggest taking a look through some of the archival pics of the original productions suits.

I started typing this just to chime in with the info that Bruce is still making these, and now I'm wasting an entire screen with text. :lol

wow.. that was a great description of everything...scarily enough..i can't think of a single thing you missed...

... OH wait!! the Gun! the best replica for the robocop gun would be a KSC bb gun. It's mostly metal with some plastic parts very hefty.. and has gas blowback. The thing is a beast!

NECA recently released a replica gun that doesn't even have a working trigger.. dont' bother with it.. it's just a hunk of resin.

There are cheap airsoft plastic bbguns out there, which are great for conventions because you can throw them around.. but it doesn't compare..

yup..you're not robocop without the gun.....
actually, you're not robocop without the suit either.. so go back and read neon sentry's post again.. get in touch with Bruce.. then come back to mine..

I knew I forgot something! The gun! :lol

Like ave4uevoli said, there's a few options out there for the Auto-9 ranging from $10 to $300+ depending on the type/source, but just like any other replica, you get what you pay for!

There's a few specifics which has kept me from getting a suit myself (I'm too short to fit into one of them) which should probably be addressed before someone goes spending 3k on a suit they can't wear.

Weller was 6', so Bruce's suit can be modified to fit roughly 5'10" to 6'2", a little bit more or a bit less depending on the wearer's proportions (I'd love to be proven wrong on this and catch sight of a 6'5" Robo marching through D*C). The elbow joints can be moved lower or higher not just to account for arm length, but also to increase the range of movement so you can take off your own helmet (or eat/drink) and the like.

Also, Robo can't drive while wearing the legs (Weller just wore the upper body for driving scenes) and the only time you see him doing this (in RoboCop 3 in the blown-out pimp's car) they were actually just strapped onto his body, with his real legs in black spandex sitting between them, so don't plan on suiting up until you're at your destination.

Hm... I think that's it! I'm a treasure trove of miscellaneous RoboCop info (as is ave4uevoli, apparently!) so nobody should hesitate to seek out answers for this oft-misunderstood character.

Fake Edit: Oh yeah, remembered just before I hit Submit Reply! There are currently no options available for the GyroPack or WeaponArm from RC3. Toy Island produced a limited run of symmetrical (and therefore inaccurate) WeaponArm toys back in '93 which, IIRC, were never properly released and only available through the JC Penny's Christmas catalog that year (when the film was released) along with a toy helmet seen on the packaging/promo images that was only released in Japan to my knowledge. In '98, with the release of Alpha Commando (MGM-Animation's last project and an odd one at that) it was released properly, albeit in dark blue. I've seen one of these painted up, extended and worn with a Hansing suit, but it was much too small.

A start-up (that has been rather hush-hush about their operations, and I believe to be nothing more than vaporware) claimed to have been dealing with MGM to produce and release a replica of the RoboCop 3 suit, complete with WeaponArm and GyroPack, but I seriously doubt their claims. If this info changes I'll be sure to update my post.

Okay, now I think that's it! :lol

Oh... now we're talking about the "hush hush" projects eh? :lol

wellllll.... there are rumors going around that Steven Stull is going to try and make working leg gun holsters, that actually open and close using little micro motors.

For those of you who don't know Stull is the guy who makes the functional airwolf helmet, and he even built a 1:1 airwolf helicoptor for a museum.

This project is currently on hiatus, (probably due to the lack of people who are willing to pay thousands for leg armor) But..... all you can do is cross your fingers and hope.. like the Robocop 3 armor with a gyropack

And, yes it's not the best thing to do to purchase armor that you can't wear... but i'm only 5'6" (5'6 and a half on a good day) :rolleyes and I bought it for display purposes only... though I do love walking around with the helmet on while doing laundry or cleaning house..

haha... no seriously.. actually Hansing has actually modified the armor to fit shorter people so it's all good..

I haven't believed in the viability of an operable thigh holster since doing the measurements back in high school, but when it comes to Robo, I love to be proven wrong about our limits :)

Supposedly Stull was to be contracted by another individual who was handling the affair with MGM for licensing, but Stull had an accident and was dropped from the project. Another artist was to take over, but another company is handling the project now and now we're in the dark...

Unless some extra info has been floating around about it?

ave4uevoli, I imagine you're a member on the RoboCop Archive? I used to be a mod over there back in '02-'03 if I remember right. I was the resident toy expert until Aoshima got into the game, since then my liquid funds have been running dry so my collection's stalled.

haha... Yup, I'm part of the robocop archive (hah, was it that obvious?:angel). Haven't posted much because there hasn't been much going on sadly. Just the usual, hot toys ed-209 conversions and everyone gawking at murphy38's collection.

hey what happened to everyone else? is anyone still looking to get in contact with hansing? Frightzone, do you need pictures of certain parts of the armor? let me know.

If not.. neon sentry and I can keep talking about robocop until we grow old. Speaking of which... do you know anyone that has made cable robocop armor? the black chrome one from robocop prime directives? I always thought that was an amazing suit but i've only seen one or two pictures of someone actually owning one.
