robo3687's Ezio Auditore Master Assassin Build

I've been wanting to make a start on this for quite a while....so here I go.

I will be attempting to create an accurate version of this:

It is the last armour that is attained in Assassin's Creed II, Altair's armour, and I've been a massive fan of it ever since I first laid eyes on it.

I have very little experience in pattern making and sewing, but I have done some before. I made a run of about 40 sackboys (main character from LittleBigPlanet) all on my own, by hand....so this could be a complete disaster, but I have confidence that I'll be able to do it.

As sort of an offshoot to my experimentation with Pepakura on my Iron Man suit, I've decided to try and use Pep to make my clothes patterns......i don't know if it will work....but it should at the very least give me a starting point....

I'm currently working on the vambraces, more specifically the left arm.

I've used 3d studio max and Pepakura designer to create the templates of the leather sections.

And here's the templates on my arm (with cardboard standin for the blade)

I will be using craft foam (foamies, eva foam) for my leather substitute, and recently found a pack of 40 1x1.5 foot sheets of the stuff so I should be set as far as that goes....I went on an ebay hunt last night and found several little studs, pins and buckles that I'll be able to use as well.

My biggest hurdle is the actual metal part, and how to go about doing it. Here's my current idea:

1. Build up a form to model it on.
2. Use super sculpey to model it out
3. Once sculpted and baked, apply silver/aluminium leaf to it.

Keep in mind I have no idea what I'm doing....lol...so if you can think of a better way don't be afraid to tell me.

Also how far will 1 pound of super scupley get me? Should it be enough to do the 'metal'work on the vambrace?

This could well end up being the most question filled thread ever....but I want to be good at this, and the RPF is the best place I've found to learn....

I won't be starting any of the major stuff (ie the clothing) until I've finished modeling Iron Man for you all. So this thread will likely be mostly quiet until then, but I just had to get it out of my head.

Hey good to see you startin strong on your Ezio outfit!

I did some research on materials for an Altair costume a while back, and heres my suggestions:

for the "leather" you could cover your foamies in some cheap fake leather vinyl you can pick up at any fabric store. just rip the cotton backing off and spray adhesive on the thin layer of vinyl leather and attach to your foamies. for weathering, some dark colored acrylic paints and a paper towel dobbing and dashing as you go.

btw, get the dark leather, not the lighter khaki color. you cant reallly get that dark enough to count. I learned that lesson when i constructed a hellboy costume last year.

the metal would probably best be done with sculpey like you said, but i'd try to find some rub n buff instead of leaf.

Re: robo3687's Ezio Auditore Master Assassin Build

i'd thought of doing that with the fake leather stuff....just without ripping the backing off...lol....i don't know why i didn't think of that....that would also solve the issues of having to colour the foam.....

here's a look at what i got in my ebay hunt

buckle to hold the outer layer of the vambrace shut.

i've got some brown leather cord coming as well, and some beads to make his necklace...

Re: robo3687's Ezio Auditore Master Assassin Build

good udea! How much did that huge back of foam cost?

Re: robo3687's Ezio Auditore Master Assassin Build

If this is going to look as awesome as it seems, probably I have to finish my hidden gun/blade and give a copy of it to you!;)
:thumbsup

Re: robo3687's Ezio Auditore Master Assassin Build

awesome! still working on the primary gear build myself :)

For the buckles, I used 1 1/4" roller bar buckles. (similar shape to the one you have, but the metals thicker overall) if you can pry the rollers off it'll be more accurate to the game ^^
Whats the diameter of the studs? I have no idea what coin that is or its size XD
The scrapbooking section of michaels crasft store has studs that are absolutely perfect for the bracer!

as for the bracer sculpt, I've gone a similiar route for the belt (and currently working on the bracer sculpt), but then went and molded/cast it. Considering where the stuff is located, the little bits would be likely to break should sculpey be mounted directly to the gear

:confused You my hero.... I LOVED Asssassin's Creed 2!!!:angel I will DEFINITLEY have to stealt those templates. Only problem for me is the robes. I can only do a basic stitch and can't work a sowing machine to save my life. I wish you the best of luck with this. Wish I could do it:cry LOL

well it retails for around 40 bucks here in Australia, but I got it for $15 on ebay, still waiting for it to come though ( and now i have to wait till Monday...hmph)

well that was unexpected...i wouldn't be able to just take it...lol...i'd have to pay something....it was actually that project of yours that finally pushed me into doing this, how long and wide is the sculpt of the gun?

Re: robo3687's Ezio Auditore Master Assassin Build

Hey one minor thing, that vambrace is gonna go through some crazy bumpage most likely. i'd suggest casting your finished sculpey parts in resin so you dont risk breaking your one off vambrace.

Also, Heres an old idea on Altair's hidden blade. I could draw one up in MSPaint for Ezio's if ya want:

Really?
Well, thank you! :)

The hidden gun/blade is (with the end "key" attached at the end and everything) 20cm long and 10cm wide at its widest point :)

It fit my small arm precisely (a cm bigger would be already TOO big!:lol)

Hope this measurements help a bit :)

Re: robo3687's Ezio Auditore Master Assassin Build

@ramiel: well that measurement sounds like it should be just about right for my templates....i think they're 23cm....

-------

okay so I was bored tonight...and earlier today I'd done a model of the hood of Ezio's suit...so I decided to pep it...very roughly.....sticking it together with masking tape....

and i think i'll be using this pep to make my patterns off of....

(excuse the crapiness of the photo...no one else is up to help...lol...)

hoodpep.jpg

i should note it's sitting up quite a lot, but thats because its rigid and i've tilted my head forward and my hair is massive (haven't had a haircut in over 7 months), should fit fine once its fabric and i've had a haircut....

I'm working on growing my beard out to where it is in that concept art up the top as well

Re: robo3687's Ezio Auditore Master Assassin Build

Robo.. you are a effing GENIUS! Love the work. I might have some commissioned work for you in the future... going with this whole 3d model to pep then use pep for pattern idea you have... it's brilliant!

Re: robo3687's Ezio Auditore Master Assassin Build

great idea on the hood! Getting that thing precisely patterned to behave right has been a huge problem ><

Re: robo3687's Ezio Auditore Master Assassin Build

Ha!
I did the same (well, the idea at least) for the Altair hood, so it would have been more like the game model than a floppy hood on my head, I did the pep work but I never did the hood unfortunately... as soon as I can use properly my PC again (lot of things to fix) I plan of doing the same thing;)

And your hood looks very good to me!:thumbsup

Re: robo3687's Ezio Auditore Master Assassin Build

I recommend following the stitching pattern on the hood (as seen in the pictures) with a thin wire frame for shape. Only problem is you can't take the hood off then. But then again, Ezio never takes his hood off once you get that armor anyway so it might work.

i know, i'd had several attempts a few weeks ago to do patterns by hand....and yeh....that failed...

i'm going to try and find a fabric that's stiff enough so that it will stay in shape without resorting to wire.....i think with the way the pattern should work out (it'll match the game model exactly) it should support itself.....

Re: robo3687's Ezio Auditore Master Assassin Build

Im not sure what its called but they sell a fabric stiffener material that kind of reminds me of thin felt but its stiff. You just sew it under/inside of whatever you want. That could work. If I can remember the name of it Ill let you know.

It's called interfacing, and bigger fabric stores should carry it. You get the yardage you want cut from the bolt just like other fabrics. There are a few different kinds, they vary in stiffness - but there's also a heat-set interfacing, if I remember correctly. You iron it to your fabric & they fuse. Others are meant to be sewn in-between 2 layers of other fabric.

Good luck, robo - and good for you for diving into a such a big project!
