Robin costume

Will you be posting pictures of your progress
?

Of course!

So you're looking at doing something like this?

Kind of. I want that same style but I want the gloves, the cape and the boots to be green. Plus, my mask won't be so elaborate.

arnt there a few dif Dick Greyson suits? never really was into the book, unless you want to do the one from that cheasy show in the 60s(?) which i think would be a red tunic with green sleeves stitched in. as far as a belt, maybe one of the Batman Begins belts?

I'd like something akin to a bat belt. I'd like a yellow one with pouches (that's in lue of not having pockets).

Walgreens/Walmart both carry sray in hair dye - it lasts till you wash it out the next day so maybe you can look into that aswell.

I am really afraid of hair dye. I'm going with a wig otherwise - being blonde - I'll look like Slim Shady. No, thank you.

Thanks everyone for the help. I'm going to the fabric store tomorrow to look for a vest pattern.

now if only we can see a really good Nightwing costume lol

In the comics, Dick Grayson's Robin costume was basically the same over the years, with a few subtle changes. He kept the basic green unitard(in the comics it was a one-piece), red tunic, and yellow cape. Some artists have drawn variations in the tunic laces and occasionally the pixie shoes look a little more like boots. His "R" emblem has stayed pretty consistent. Sometimes his domino mask has the eyes whited out, and sometimes the eyes are visible through the holes. Also, sometimes the mask is black and other times it looks green. As a kid, his hair was parted in the center, with little spitcurls, and once he got older, it was usually parted on the side. I have several Robin books and toys near my desk, and I've checked them all for details.
Even Jason Todd(Robin #2) wore the same costume as Dick.

I'd LOVE to see someone do a good Nightwing costume.

I am going to take a few of those different variations and kind of pick them apart. My costume will be an amalgam of all of the subtle variations.

I've done some research and found that the original, accepted version of the costume is the way to go. I don't like this Teen Titans-black cape thing that they are trying now. I think the original version is best.

I'm going with:
* Black wig, preferrably a little long.
* Domino Mask - black
* Yellow Cape.
* Red Tunic with the R logo that I posted above. Plus I want the yellow stripes made of Velcro
* Green shirt underneath for the sleeves. I don't want the Burt Ward "R" because it looks too much like a letterman's patch.
* Green gauntlets
* Yellow belt with yellow pouches.
* Dark Green Speedos
* Green tights.
* Pixie shoes (although I have no idea where I am going to find them.

I'm looking around for a good wig because I am deathly afraid of hair dye. Below is a pic of my hair, excuse the Bizarro logo, I was being cute.

Please dont do the Damien look. lols

I like the look you said you are going with, sounds akin to the Grayson suit, which, as shown above, looks great.

That's me. And I "am" 40 now. ;)

Trust me... You're never "too old" to be a "Robin".

Any questions fire away! :)

EDIT- Oh just to add- I didn't make this myself (I'm not "that" good yet ;) ). I had it professionally made for me. But I can tell you all about it.

Kevin

Hey... long time since I saw u in that! Amazing Robin!

He's right, NEVER too old for any of this!

Personally I got a load of compression gear from Eastbay, so I could put together an animated Robin, Batman, Superman, Phantom, Nightwing, Spider-Man, whatever, in the future. It's a great starting point IMO, because it's cheap and they got all kinds of colors.
