Robby the Robot-anyone have any basic dimensions?

Re: Robby the Robot

IMHO the big Starlog blueprint is not that useful or accurate. If you hunt down the "Cinefantastique Double Issue" on Forbidden Planet, there are useful drawings in there.

Robby was sized to fit the particular guy who was going to wear the suit... so the bigger you are, the bigger Robby is. :lol

Heads up... giant scan comin' thru. :rolleyes

Re: Robby the Robot

Incidentally I have a policy of never reading entire threads, so I have no idea if you said you already had this magazine in the very first post. :sleep

Re: Robby the Robot

FYI, just because they are studio prints, does not mean the dims are necessarily correct to what was built.

I have studio prints for the LIS robot (same designer and builders) and they rarely match the "as built" robot.

Just the nature of prop building in the 50s and 60s.

Oh wow thank you for sharing that phase pistol. I was looking for something like this, something that I'd have no problem blowing up. That is awesome thank you so much.

Oh you to racprops very nice stuff.

Re: Robby the Robot

Thank you for the input.

I do have that great issue of cinefantastique. Unfortunately, I don't think it has any specific dimensions. An accurate height would help out alot. I may try to scale him based on photos with other people/objects in the frame eventually.

The drawing PP posted has some very specific dimensions.
Hold to 6'-11" (which I'll assume means they want to get it through a 3'x7' doorway).
Searching for an absolute number is a waste of time, you'll never get it. Do what the rest of us do and take a guess. Build the prop and have fun. And don't tell anybody, because Freddy is watching.

I have scaled Blueprints if you want them. See pictures above. PM me. Pay for shipping.
Laffo.

I thought we weren't supposed to talk about this here ? Was I mistaken ? Has something changed ?

I also thought the only interest in this item was because it's taboo .

Am I wrong are there people that are actually interested in this item, for reasons other than having something they aren't supposed to have ?

Oh crap, there are a few dimensions on there! Thanks.

I never heard that we weren't supposed to talk about one of the greatest Sci-fi icons of motion pictures; but that Mr. Barton was getting a little ruffled that some people might be publicly discussing (from his POV) how to build one... Honestly I doubt Mr. Barton would be interested in coming after me legally for asking how tall Robby is.

WHAT You mean others can read this… I called for the Cone of Silence, so no one should be able to hear…..
What a minute….
Hear?? HEAR, darn I need a cone of invisible ink…..
Warning as usual this message will self destruct in 5 seconds….5….4…2….2…1
Every one erase.

Then what was all that crap about not even being able to use the words Robby the Robot ? And the B.S. about the CD being worded so you aren't really even supposed to build one for yourself ? And why I've never seen one at a convention ?
