RIP Peter O'Toole

Arabia was an epic film and O'Toole was fantastic in it, but the first time I saw him in a movie was the Stuntman and that's always how I see him.

Lawrence of Arabia has always been in my opinion one of the greatest achievements in film. He will be missed.

If you've never seen My Favorite Year give that a shot. O'Toole is essentially Errol Flynn. Fun.

But, agreed, Lawrence of Arabia is one in a million. That's something to see on the big screen. Not bad for an actor's first film.

Sad day this is, feel like digging out Casino Royale to see his cameo with Peter Sellers.

Edit: The line was "Then you're the finest man who ever breathed."

An Icon has been lost. :(

I had the pleasure of having lunch with him and oh the storys he told! :lol

He was a great raconteur and was so cool in person.

They don't make them like that anymore

I can only imagine!

One of my favorite O'Toole stories was told by Richard Harris on one of the late night talk shows (I can't remember which). I've seen a number of variations on this story, but as Harris told it that night it went something like this: Harris had heard his good friend O'Toole was performing in a stage production and wanted to see it without O'Toole knowing he'd been there, so he dressed as a Roman Catholic priest. After the performance he wanted to go backstage to tell O'Toole how good he was, but obviously couldn't do it dressed as a Catholic priest so he exchanged clothing with the friend who had accompanied him to the performance. The next day one of the local newspapers reported there had been a disturbance during the matinee when a Roman Catholic priest undressed in the gallery. Some years later Harris was performing a one-man show, and while he was singing a song there was a commotion in the back of the hall. Harris stopped the orchestra and shouted, "What's going on out there?!?" From the back of the hall a booming voice replied, "I'm Peter O'Toole and I'm dressed as a nun!"
