Science fiction Grand Master Frederik Pohl (1919-2013) has passed away, at the age of 93.
Time to re-read the Heechee series in remembrance.

It must have been a fun era to be a scifi writer, it was such a new medium still that you could get your start with rough stories and actually get better as you went. These days you can't even get your foot in the door.

Agreed, but you'd be surprised at how many writers who became big, legit names had to write porn because their SF and mystery stories, etc., didn't generate enough $ to live on. I salute these guys all the more for sticking it out.
