Ridley Scott Prometheus: NOT the Alien Prequel Details

Is the Weyland site down? I heard they had an update, and I haven't been able to get to it at all since I've been home.

Okay, that was weird.. I write the above sentence, go to "Down for Everyone or Just Me" just to say that I've done it, and it tells me it's just me... so I click the link and the site opens instantly.

It's whats been missing in sci-fi for 30 years.
I really hope that's true, and it's what I'm most anticipating from it, is the first real science fiction film in a long, long time.

Damon Lindelhof actually explained the "not-a-prequel" thing pretty well in an interview with Kevin Pollak about a year ago. Long story short, his idea of a "proper" prequel was one that you didn't already know the ending to. That the sequel to that film wouldn't necessarily be the original one. He pointed out the Star Wars prequels as an example of how not to do it. Yeah, it was kind of neat to see all that stuff unfold, but from the beginning of TPM, you knew how the third film would end.

So yes, he's playing in the same universe, but otherwise the links between the films are pretty intangible.

Hope you're right, and that the derelict from Alien is not the ship we see here, though that seems highly unlikely given what Scott said about it being the same planet or whatever. If it is the same ship then the links between the films are very tangible indeed.

Watched the clip. It's pretty, but it's also pretty low on tension, suspense and apprehension. The landing in Alien is technically inferior FX-wise but emotionally far superior, far more visceral and involving. So is the landing in Aliens for that matter.

This is the movie I am most anticipating!

Perfect cast, perfect director, perfect setting!

Im trying so hard to stay away from SPOILERS! It is getting much more difficult to do so as the release date approaches.

I have a feeling there are some BIG surprises n this movie, and I dont want any of them spoiled.

I hope this exceeds my expectations the way Avengers did, and that Ridley will please make another Blade Runner!
