I like those pics of the Prometheus interior, is it me or does the mess hall seem sort of reminiscent of the one on the Nostromo? I'm sure that it's probably not close but it does remind of the Nostromo mess hall for some reason.

I don't think you're crazy or anything. :cool I had the same thought.

I would hope they would have some similarities. Same universe, same corporation likely owns the ship manufacturers and developed a lot of the technology used. The Nostromo itself looked like it had been in service for 20+ years. This is only supposed to be 30 years prior to Alien, so they should have similar functional design charcteristics.

The Nostromo was used as a tug for the mine/refinery, but it may have had other uses prior to that. Still, it is more of a rough, unrefined, workers ship, whereas the Prometheus looks new, more refined, and state of the art. Perfectly fits with something a mega billionaire would do for his pet research project.

I like how the med bay equipment is very similar to the Nostromo med bay. Keeps the universe consistent.

Nitpick; Nostromo appears to have been purpose-built to tow; it has that large heptagonal clamp attachment point on the top of the "backpack" area. It could perhaps have been retrofitted but it would be a big rebuild - the structural stress applied by an "afterthought" tow point would not be a small issue to deal with.

Certainly the refinery was purpose-built to be towed by a ship of that class and could not be towed by a ship with a different tow point or engine layout.

Only 30 years...? Dear me. More shrinking of the awesome atmosphere set up in the first film. I liked being free to think the derelict had been there for thousands of years...

The Prometheus, to my eye, is beginning to look a bit like - and this is not necessarily a bad thing - a sort of fold-up kids' push-chair lying on its back (take the fuselage, imagine that's the seatback, put a push bar across the nose, and see the engine pods as where the wheels would be). Which is particularly intriguing to me as I've been blending futuristic vehicles with inappropriate forms like perambulators, beds, wheelchairs etc. in my art...

The stern of the ship butts up snugly against the refinery. Below the mount point for the clamp arm, the refinery has three large thrust tunnels which connect with the end of the ship's engine bells. These tunnels run directly through the structure of the X-shape of the refinery platform, with the obvious benefit of refinery non-fryage.

One might presume that the various flaps and flanges associated with the engines are more about radiation shielding or sealing this arrangement than thrust vectoring, for which they don't really work mechanically speaking.

I'm really enjoying the leadup to this movie. Weylandindustries.com is a nice touch to the movie.

I'm looking forward to seeing this, and praying it is good.

Are we sure that the derlict in Prometheus is the same one?

That's a good point since it has been brought on numerous occasions that there are subtle differences between the SJ ships, both on the inside and outside that suggest that they might not be the same ship. For that matter, we don't even know for certain if the planet that the movie takes place on is even LV426. All we know for certain is that the movie takes place in the same universe as all of the previous Alien movies, the Weyland Corp is somehow involved, there will be Space Jockeys, there's a ship named Prometheus, and Charlize Theron looks hot in the movie, everything else (story wise) is all theory, conjecture, assumptions, and wild arsed guesses at this point.
