Ridley Scott Prometheus: NOT the Alien Prequel Details

The "blond dude" stands a good chance of taking home an Oscar this year for his work in "Shame" (and his almost-too-perfect haircut is appropriate given the character he plays in Prometheus).

Oooh, I've heard "Shame" was fantastic. NOW I'm interested.

"BlondE." Damn it.

There's an interview up with Rapace; she says greenscreen was used maybe twice during production. Everything else was built for real.

Points just for that. Hollywood, greenscreen is for hacks, OK? :p

Maybe I'm wrong, but I have a hunch that taken within the context of the finished film the cast's "grooming" as depicted on a magazine cover will become a non-issue. If it isn't already.

Same goes for the "dinky" flashlights.

Let's hope so. But it's not our fault they chose to issue such a lame-looking image for the first sight of the film. If we're meant to ignore the damn thing and repress our responses to it, why issue it? As an image it simply reads as a solidly anaemic row of bland models in disappointing suits. This has been the overwhelming response of people here, regardless of whether they're enthusiastic about the film otherwise. And, presented in connection with the sacred cow of Alien, it's BOUND to get people's backs up.

The trailer on the other hand looks good on the whole. I sure hope the trailer is the more representative.

Carson, you have the benefit of apparently speaking from a position of having privileged info on the plot and production. We don't!! We're in the dark. So, understand us: we're presented with a cheeseball image, an image which does nothing to allay the fears I myself personally have over Scott's latter-day ability to cast. After Crowe in Gladiator I will never trust him implicitly again and will always approach every work of his with extreme caution and skepticism, and especially so in a project such as this in which sacred cow imagery from Alien is going to be tampered with and exposited.

That is a very odd post.

Says who?

Reports are out there that the HD version (and ordinary ) of the trailer will be released this weekend in US cinemas and freely available on Monday (if not before!). Go to the usual sites for more info. Let the speculation begin! (again). Ratings wise it looks like the film could be a 15 (UK) which these days is all that the original Alien would warrant. Are we happy now?

Why, I do, of course. It's not so much the content of yours I find odd, but rather the style and tone of presentation. But I suppose I could write that about half the stuff I read on here.

I'm one of 'those' guys that finds 95% of your posts on the RPF a huge 'wtf?' so I guess we feel the same.

I shall explain. Thread downturns into bemoaning the perceived 'prettiness' of actors featured in Prometheus. Prometheus stars Idris Elba, famous for playing vicious badass characters who take no crap in shows such as 'The Wire' and 'Luther'. Hence my post.

Not really that cryptic, but hey, what do I know, spending most of my time in prop threads rather than 'don't-bump-I'm an OT time-wasting loudmouth blowhard ' ones :rolleyes

I suspect most of us know better than to judge a film based on one badly art-directed magazine cover.

Please understand, I respect your right to express an opinion. I just think the "too pretty" argument is kinda silly.

But, you know, that's just my opinion.

I'm just amazed that everyone's all bent out of shape over a frikkin' publicity photo. You guys don't actually think that's a still from the film, do you?

Go find a cast photo of Sigourney Weaver from Alien. I think you'll find that she actually didn't look like a thing like that photo throughout the entire film. To say you're viewing these pictures "out of context" is the understatement of the year. Only one of the released photos looks anything like an actual still (PROM-001), and it looks bloody fantastic.

I hope like hell the rumors are true about the trailer release. For two reasons: Firstly, I really really really want to see it, in a bad way. Secondly, maybe everyone here will shut up about how they think the film looks.

To Be Honest, I'm a little tired of people judging the cast on looks alone, instead of on their merits as ACTORS AND ACTRESSES! :thumbsdown

The "blonde model looking guy" is MICHAEL FASSBENDER. Some of the AWESOME productions he's been in previously include...
  • Band of Brothers
  • 300 (played "Stelios")
  • Inglourious Basterds (Played "Lt. Archie Hicox")
  • A Dangerous Method (Played "Carl Jung"!)
  • And last, but by no means least... X-Men: First Class, where he turned in a memorable performance as the young Erik "Magneto" Lehnsherr! :cool :thumbsup
Also, let's talk about Charlize Theron. She's won an OSCAR for her performance in Monster! 'Nuff said! ;)

And then there's Noomi Rapace. Many of you will likely think she's just another pretty face, but a few of you already know that she's the star of the original Swedish film adaptations of Stieg Larson's Girl with the Dragon Tattoo Trilogy. Again, 'nuff said. ;)
