I suspect most of us know better than to judge a film based on one badly art-directed magazine cover.
Please understand, I respect your right to express an opinion. I just think the "too pretty" argument is kinda silly.
But, you know, that's just my opinion.
Here we go yet again. "Judging a film". I wasn't judging the film, I was judging the sodding photo, from which I drew a fear of a repeat of casting disasters previously perpetrated by Scott, a fear reasonably formed by the extreme prettiness of the actors, yes. Meanwhile, I've also said the trailer looks
good. I'm still waiting for you 'pre-judging' accusers to slap me down for praising that trailer, which, to you guys,
must equate with praising the film before I've seen it, which equates with
judging the film before I've seen it, which equates with heinous crime number 1 around here.
Now, that photo. Badly art-directed magazine cover or not, it's a piece of major pre-release imagery presumably approved of by the film makers. Is it beyond the wit of man to ensure that the first high profile publicity image for a new Alien movie directed by Ridley Scott is an image that generates the excitement one would hope from such a project, and not one that instantly puts one in mind of Lost in Space and underwear catalogues?
I think a thread needs starting on the whole question of why it's OK on this board to anticipate
good things on viewing pre-release material, but why it's bad behaviour to fear
bad things when viewing it. Because that's what we're doing here, either hoping for the good or fearing the bad, neither of which is pre-judgment of the whole completed film. If one thinks the latter
is pre-judgement of the whole completed film, then one must accept that the former is too, and condemn too those who indulge in it, by which point there'd be just about ZERO point in any thread anticipating film releases.
(PS Carson, I do love you, you know. Despite these little contretemps from time to time, lol.
