Ridley Scott Prometheus: NOT the Alien Prequel Details

From what I have seen and production materials I have seen this movie is going to be like nothing seen before, a incredible story, tie in with the original, and the 3D is not the crapy cheap 3D, its shot in it, it works with the film, not to try and make it better. Just wait till you see more people.

That's gooooood news !!!
OK then... Fingers crossed !!!

:)

Ridley Scott?

You mean, the guy who makes some of the most overrated films of all time?

People still care?

Man, people tear Uncle George to shreds, but Ridley is idolized... it makes no sense.

If you've ever watched Burn Notice, theres a part in the intro where Bruce Campbell says , "you know spies, buncha female dog-y little girls"

I always think of this place when I hear it.

WOW, very constructive comment...

I think I'm going to do like TridCloudwalker (stay away from this area of the board in the future)

As constructive as condemning a film that isn't even completed yet.

I was just reacting to a few photos, that's mainly what this thread is all about right now. It was just my opinion at that moment (and it was argued). I never told I was right and if the film turns out to be great I'll be the happiest of Sir Rid's fans actually.

If you don't agree with me, fine, but please keep your sarcastic comments for yourself, Mr 5 good reputation points.

Thanks in advance.

I think I'm agreeing with all the comments thus far with regard to the suits. My own feeling when I saw them is that they seem to have a look that is set in a time much, much later after ALIEN. The spacesuits by Mobius and Mollo look like they come from a time when traveling and working in deep space is really, really tough. Difficult to maneuver in, difficult to work in. In the first movie that for me was part of the suspense....an astronaut wearing that bloody great suit cannot see well; breathing is labored; cannot move well and cannot react as well to danger. My own thoughts on the original design, anyway.

The new designs are sleek, appear easy to move in and the helmets give great visibility. It just doesn't look like the same universe to me right now. They do not even seem to fit in with the same world we are given in ALIENS. These designs are entirely new to the series, and I echo the same thoughts here made by others; they look like something from Enterprise or Dan Dare to me.

I'm also weary of the new Weylan(d?) Yutani logo...nothing like the WY logo on Alien and similar instead to the WY logo on Aliens/Alien3, which again to me is weird. Not saying it's bad...just surprising.

Maybe the design aesthetic for costuming / logo in ALIEN can be attributed to being the Japanese arm of Weylan(d) Yutani? Haven't a clue. And this probably isn't something that will addressed.

I hope they do run a trailer of some sort soon, as so far I'm just not feeling it. I am looking forward to the movie, I'm just not sure what to make of it all so far.

I have good news for you Graham... It looks like the real / first Weylan Yutani wings logo is on the Prometheus spacesuits !
I guess the wings on Noomi Rapace's chest refer to the eagle that eats Prometheus' liver in mythology but also to the starship itself (it's a flying object). The sun could figure the planet it's supposed to land on... but also the Gods that created man, according to what we know of the film right now... and this logo (Mission emblem, should we say ?) refers to the original Weylan Yutani wings patch as seen on the Nostromo crew !

Fred

PS : The more I think about the plot and the esthetic developed for Prometheus, the more I think at it as a kind of dark version of 2001 : A Space Odyssey... (an alien artifact discovered by man that leads to a space mission on a remote planet... high profile astronauts and immaculate sets... Hmm... Who will be play the part of HAL 9000 in Prometheus ?)

Cool! Thanks Fred, looks good. :)

Trailer sounds really good, too; I very much like the idea of the SJ cockpit/chair rising up/rotating out of the surrounding structure.

The trailer is absolutely genuine!!! My faith is somewhat restored. This looks great despite the quality >The updated "Alien" trailer original soundtrack is alot more powerful and the Alien links to the film are definitely there to see! Seek it and you'll find it! (I always wondered how the derelict lifted off from the ground ,and now I know!)

Saw the trailer too. The shots of some guy getting creamed looked VERY Parker death scene. This is very encouraging. Those two shots definitely give a thrilling sense of Scott stamping his old mark back onto the franchise. The derelict shot against the sky also looked very strong (I always preferred Giger's painting to the actual model, and, interestingly, cgi's innate painterliness might even be good for this particular spaceship; cg might more readily recreate the dreamlike effect of Giger's painting). From this trailer, the film looks like it might make it visually. Now someone come in here and slap me down for pre-judging the film's visuals before I've seen the finished film.

That could work...but I'm leery of using ideas originally discarded. The PT is full of that, and I always wondered "if it wasn't good enough then, why is it good enough now?" I guess it comes down to whether the ideas/concepts are solid but just didn't FIT, or if they plain weren't very good to begin with. I'd hate to get Alien's B-sides.

I wasn't putting it forward as a positive. :lol

But for all my concern, I am cautiously optimistic. I can't help it. I loves me some Alien :love

Ditto, actually. Can't help myself, am getting goosebumps, and the trailer...woo!

Holy crap...I've never seen such pessimism. I'm reserving judgment until the credits roll. Period.

I'm reserving judgement until, I don't know, probably three or four days after seeing the film. :D Unless it's a no-brainer like Phantom Menace I find a lasting opinion usually takes a while to form.

I'm staying away from leaked bootleg footage of the trailer.. I want to see it in full 1080p glory when it's released officially. :)
