Ridley Scott Prometheus: NOT the Alien Prequel Details

That's a very good point. The heroes of the Alien Quad are mainly pretty "real" looking. I can accept the blonde guy because he has a great golden age of sci-fi vibe (the hair?), but that guy with the brown hair has the look of an illiterate underwear model. Like he's just come from playing a werewolf in Twilight.

That group shot is scary. It looks like 'Lost In Space'. I really
hope this is EW doing their notorious airbrushing! Also, as mentioned,
the design is off. It appears to be more modern than the mobius
suits. I'm getting that Phantom Menace feeling!!

Yeah, the color values in that shot are definitely over-saturated. There's no way the movie is going to look like that. How the hell could they let this be the "first look?"

I'm not feeling those suits, they kind of look like the suits from the Lost in Space movie with the guy from "Friends", kinda of like a scuba wet suit with a helmet on it.

It's not just the costumes that look underwhelming. So do the people inside them. Two young, handsome hunks we have here. No young, handsome hunks in 'Alien', and it was, of course, the stronger for it...
I have to agree with Colin on this they look like model types who the hell takes off a space helmet and has his hair so neat? look at the blond guy. The original suits looked functional and the cast like everyday people of different ages it looks like a bunch of yuppies in space I really had high hopes for this movie but I'm kind of feeling a disturbance in the force ....oh thats a different movie RUN!!! Giant Head! Lol.

I'm pretty sure the blond guy is an android. So yeah.. pretty hair makes sense.

Second, it's a production still at best, and more likely a staged publicity photo.

As for the uniforms... has it been established that this is a WY corporate ship? The Nostromo was just a space tug, remember.. if this is some kind of military or government ship as opposed to a bunch of space truckers, then the uniforms make a bit more sense. I'm holding off judgment until we find out more about who these people are.

Or is everyone pretty to help invoke we are fallen gods going back to poke a stick in god's eye or something? Not just stumbling bumbling apes in a space truck that trip over a face hugger egg by accident?

Now that I saw these images I'm really, REALLY scared !!!

:unsure

I totally agree with most of what was said above and I'm less and less excited by this film...

I just read this thread (didn't even know we had a new movie on the horizon but boy does this look grim) and my only hope is that they won't pull a phantom menace on us.

There's a Weyland-Yutani logo on Idris Elba's t-shirt above.

Same logo seen here:

Jed2016 raised some very good points. Michael Fassbender is supposed to be an Android, though the green sports bag he's carrying makes him look like an Android who got lost on his way back from the gym after a massage and facial. And yes, they all look far too pretty for starship crew, even if the Prometheus is supposed to be the first faster than light spaceship and therefore reasonably mint. It just feels like Ridley has pandered to Hollywood guidelines by being VERY mainstream with this, whilst "Alien" was anything but. If they had really known what he was doing with the original film they would never have let him make it the way he did.
I am also not reassured by the fact FOX now apparently have a Toy line to go with this (according to Alien Prequel news) though it doesn't say what kind of "toys". God knows I love models and props but I'm not certain I want action figures.
Again the word MAINSTREAM and "Avatar" come to mind. And given the fact its 3D,supposed to be shot in two versions (family friendly and not so family friendly) and the script information we have now seems to support the tall godlike aliens, mysterious planets and humanities origins I think this is really going to be more conventional than we hoped from Ridley. If FOX is already rumoured to be so pleased with it they are looking for a sequel then I think we can conclude this isn't going to be anything as distinctive as "Alien". I don't doubt it may lock into the story right at the end as it appears a key character survives and recounts the whole story in flashback. But I have a very nasty feeling our beloved Alien creature may not be as "alien" in origin as we thought.
I really will have to wait until I see the trailer though. I don't doubt it will look fanatastic and be well above the average sci fi film. But I've got real doubts about it now with the way this is being marketed. It feels very mainstream.

PS: I must add a correction to the "Toys" statement. Apparently the license has been granted to "HOT TOYS" that make superb replica figures. They do some very good Alien figures apparently.

Hahahahahhahahahaha!!

The other guy with the 50s SF look... looks like he's testing out for John Tracy for a new live-action Thunderbirds or something...

Still, it may work out. We haven't seen them speak yet, so there's still every reason to hope they will turn out to be great actors, like John Hurt and Ian Holm.

What if, what if, what if....what if they've just used great big chunks of the original discarded concepts from A L I E N? The biowarfare research station idea, for example. Something about that ship mockup reminds me inescapably of the Cobb concept art.

That could work...but I'm leery of using ideas originally discarded. The PT is full of that, and I always wondered "if it wasn't good enough then, why is it good enough now?" I guess it comes down to whether the ideas/concepts are solid but just didn't FIT, or if they plain weren't very good to begin with. I'd hate to get Alien's B-sides.

But for all my concern, I am cautiously optimistic. I can't help it. I loves me some Alien :love

.

My main concern for now is that the production design itself is mainstream... I'm not sure the film will break new ground in this area like A L I E N did in its time...

Almost all set photos showing human technology I saw until now have displayed boring designs : The Prometheus landing gear, a very ugly and uninspired armored vehicle (did I see motorbikes in a corner of a screencap ?), the Prometheus bridge and rooms (or what we can glimpse from them), etc...

Times have changed since the first film was released... Sir Rid had artists like Giger, Foss, Cobb & Moebius involved in this one. These guys didn't create everything on the film but they more than helped define it's very distinctive visual style. Giger apart, it looks like all the designers involved in Prometheus were already part of the film industry, an industry who tends to recycle the same old ideas and designs again and again and again...

I just hope the story will be good because I'm not sure the production design will be able to partially carry the film the way it did on A L I E N.

Time will tell...

From what I have seen and production materials I have seen this movie is going to be like nothing seen before, a incredible story, tie in with the original, and the 3D is not the crapy cheap 3D, its shot in it, it works with the film, not to try and make it better. Just wait till you see more people.
