Ridley Scott Prometheus: NOT the Alien Prequel Details

Yeah, we're tragics, let's face it. :)

Steve, one thing about having your childhood raped as hard as the prequels did it, is that you get calluses. It makes things less chafey next time. :D

Holy freakin' crap. So much for any assertions that this isn't a straight prequel set in the A L I E N universe! (Which means that if half of what Ridders has been saying is true, he's not actually playing it that way, and it's going to get weird. Or means that he's just been having a lot of fun messing with us.)

Oh well, looks like my production design forecast is borne out, at least. Did Roger Christian build those Roger Christian sets? :lol

What is with the Space Jockey-less Space Jockey platform?!

Love the white octagonal ship interior and big bulbous spacesuit helmets - very Nostromo. :thumbsup

So I hear the story is that basically the company gets wind of the Space Jockey civilisation, who are big into terraforming. They send out a team to steal fire from the gods - a.k.a. the secrets of terraforming. The team achieves their mission then flees, with the Derelict and a boatload of egg-bombs being sent after them. Obviously not all goes well for the revenge/counterattack mission.

Is this about right? If so, in what way is this not a direct A L I E N prequel? Curse you Ridders, I started to believe you...

And what is with the giant (human??) head/statue?

Those shots have a good Alien feel to them. I'm not getting the whole giant head thing though. I'm sure it was stated earlier that it was the pilot of the ship.

Could be worse: we could have Shane Salerno scripting and Paul Anderson or the Strause Bros. directing

Dude, best emoticon in the history of the internet!

Oh, and those pics above are giving me real confidence in this movie. Even if I'm not nuts about over-explaining/prequels, as said above, if it's a good movie and can stand on its own as such, I'm on board. Otherwise...yup, Godfather III, like Carson said. What happened in that one again?! :lol

I think we have to open minded with this film, we really dont know the details yet. A lot of people want it to be another Alien film in the truest sense of the word, I think it will be something that will let down people that have Alien expectations.

There's always going to be those that just dont like the direction of the story and those that love the film. I'm hoping for something that isn't an Alien movie but clearly love the idea of it being related so to speak.

If I was a Studio I doubt I'd throw $160,000,000 at something thats not very good. The giant head thing I'm sure will end up being a very iconic part of the film, its just hard to think of it with out it being a bit comedy, theyre usually in glass jars or on spikes.

I think the shots we' ve seen look great as with all great films the cast/acting will make it work, if the acting isn't believable then its Dooooooomed. Aka Species (anyone)

From what I understand it is absolutely a prequel, albeit one that expands greatly upon the world envisioned in the original film.

Think of it as Ridley Scott's "2001." With monsters.

I have no idea if the film will be any good. Early indications seem promising, but I've been fooled before. And, in any case, even if Scott delivers a masterpiece there will still be those among us who wish he'd never bothered.

Personally, I'm really rooting for Ridley. Uneven as his films can be the man is an undisputed visionary, and I remain cautiously optimistic that his long awaited return to sci-fi will have been worth the wait.

And if not (shrugs), we'll always have A L I E N and Blade Runner.

So, hang on...I'm confused... which script is the Alien Harvest script? The African dig/Von Daniken thing?

The images look good, on the whole.

EDIT: Oh, is that the head in that big chamber thing? If so, I LIKE. This is the most interesting element of the film for me. The whole film should be about giant heads in Giger chambers.

I can strongly advise re watching TPM on magic mushrooms, it will clear your mind of any notion that Vader made 3P0, in fact I can arrange a mind wipe if you truly want this memory gone for good. I tried it on my self and got the Sound of Music confused with ESB, the results where amazing. I'm still convinced Yoda got an oscar, and can clearly see him receiving the award on a hill side in Austria IN MY MIND. If nothing else it helped me forget about TPM for ever.

Always remember there only films.......as I walk into a room in my house with star wars props and models in every direction......only a film....Guy.......only a film..........

Sounds good. Maybe I'll give it a try... and yes, you're right, they ARE only films, after all, at the end of the day, when you really think about it, lol...
