Ridley Scott Prometheus: NOT the Alien Prequel Details

While I agree it was poorly conveyed, the crew of The Prometheus, were, like the Marines in Aliens, unaware of their mission until they arrived.

Definitely agree. An editing issue? It's a problem I had with BR too now that I think about it. Jumpy edits in the original versions.

The whole Milburn/Fifield subplot was inexcusably dumb though, what with them having the whole area they had traversed mapped and accessible through their suits and Janek, and their reaction towards the serpent was bizaree in tone and motivation.

Agree and agree. That initial freakout really came out of the blue. If they'd been Hudson-style grunt comic relief characters it could have worked, but both of them were mission specialists! And
when the serpents showed, Milburn reacted waaaaaaay counter to whatever training you'd expect an exobiologist would have had. A blind, snake-like alien thing that's approaching me and hissing? I'd run a ****ing mile. :lol

The movie felt slashed to me, as if the character reactions and responses to various events were cut for pacing. Will be interesting to see if there was excised material on the dvd

Ditto. Heavily so, I hope a longer SE or DC is in the offing.

So, am I to assume that this movie negates AVP etc? That the Xenos are a newly invented species and not millenia old as depicted elsewhere?[/spoiler]

Yes. People will argue this, but you'd have to be a one-eyed AVP fanboy to reach any other conclusion.

In fact the movie makes it bleedin' obvious, really. There's a very pretty and slightly poignant ending scene, the effect of which is instantly ruined by a second ending which reads as a horribly cheesy tacked-on nod to the "give me xeeeeenomorphs or give me death" crowd.

Really, this looked a lot like it might originally have been intended to follow the credits. And it should have.

Except for the fact...
...that the engineer didn't die in the chair! It's not the same guy. Also... the planet they are on is NOT LV426 but LV226 (or was it 3..?)

Even though I'd agree that the film does INTEND that, I'm still a little fearful. (It's LV223, and they even say something about the system itself that conflicts with the one in A L I E N.) But if this does well enough to result in another film, I wouldn't put it past Hollywood to indulge in one of those spasms of dumbness. You know the ones.

And I have to wonder if they set up a situation that IS similar enough to the starting state of A L I E N that they could take it in that direction if they want to, intentionally? The major pieces are all in place and you could write some nonsense to join the dots.

I just saw it and loved it.It's not going to replace Alien but I wasn't going into it thinking it would ever replace Alien.

All I want to know is "Prometheus" in big bold white letters on the side of the ship? You can do a spoiler tag if you want. Going on Saturday to see it.

Not as good as I thought it would be, many points to touch on but will wait till later or tomorrow to share until more people see it, but want to say the music that we hear in all the trailers that suspenseful sound you know the one, not even heard in the movie why do they do that?
