Ridley Scott Prometheus: NOT the Alien Prequel Details

Well that's all very confusing.
You don't have to be a keen fan to see the connection if
Space Jockey cockpits and Giger aliens are in the flick.

This doesn't look good:

'While ALIEN was indeed the jumping off point for this project, out of the creative process evolved a new, grand mythology and universe in which this original story takes place'.
- Scott

If the reports of them building jockeys and aliens at Pinewood are true, then it looks like he's going to de-mystify the guts out of EVERYTHING. Jockey, aliens, the whole lot are going to be exposited to death, by the look of this. I'm staying away. I'm not going within a mile of the thing. It may be a nice film in the end, but as has been said by many, it'll never be worth the destruction of the enigma of the original - especially in view of Scott's current form as a director.

Oh gawdangfrikkinwossname. Just as I'd heaved a big sigh of relief.

EFF EFF ESS!!!!!!!!

Arrrghhhh!

Saw Alien on the big screen in Baltimore last night, a lot of fun. Packed house, and there were a few laughs in the wrong places (the chestbusters once revealed was one) but it was also amazing to feel waves of fear going through a packed room. A girl sat behind me hadn't seen it before and was completely terrified.

^ Well, ALL SW EU is crud to me. As for why I disapprove of an Alien EU: Cos it'll dilute the effect of the first movie (see countless posts above).

The first film has already been diluted to the point of no return. We're supposed to believe that ALIENS have been on Earth for thousands of years before the Nostromo encountered them in the 22nd Century. What could be worse than that? Maybe they were behind the John F. Kennedy assassination?

Hang on a sec:

"Part of the film will be shot in Morocco. I’ve heard that some sort of archeological dig where they discover alien DNA takes place there and that DNA gives them the coordinates for an alien world."

This bit at least sounds stupid enough to ring alarm bells. The other stuff - space jockey set, big Giger aliens - I could cope with if they don't **** all over the original too badly.

But archaeological digs finding alien DNA which points to the stars? C'mon, that sucks big time. It's perfectly possible Scott WAS referencing a plot point like this, but we all took his 'the keen fan will recognize strands of ALIEN’s DNA, so to speak...' comment as referring to filmic DNA, not literal plot-point DNA.

I'm still holding out hope that he WAS, and we just have another idiotic case of Chinese Whispers here.

Well, we do know that something happened prior to the first film. The company knew about LV-426, they most likely knew about the derelict, and they certainly knew about the alien. Maybe they didn't know exactly what it was, but they knew it was there, and they knew they wanted it. They had to find it out somewhere.

I don't really mind what he's doing, assuming he's going down the road I think he's going down. I don't know if it's going to "explain" everything like some people are afraid of, but I do think it's going to change perspective on the rest of the films.

Lol...you're right, but I've managed so far to shelter myself from that crap, the predator excrement and the comics and whatever...

It just doesn't bear thinking about. Sounds like a rip from The Fifth Element. Or seventies Dr. Who.

Yeah, but what I'm saying is...doesn't it read as if some idiot somewhere has just taken Ridley WAY TOO LITERALLY and embroidered the location shoot info with a wrong interpretation of his "DNA" remark?

This was a report of extremley dubious origin on Sky News, for gawd's sake!

Hardly worth dignifying with speculation, imho.

Well, maybe... on the plus side, reading more closely, they say the dig may not actually be meant to be taking place on Earth, might be some alien planet or sump'n. I'm still not going, though. Still, the idea of a giant head flying dat spaceship sounds cool... though naaah, it won't be as good as how I already imagine it...

David Lynch gave us that already, anyway. :)

Re: Ridley Scott: Prometheus Details

Eh, we'll see.

I suppose we have to keep in mind this is going to be...omg...a RIDLEY SCOTT SCIENCE FICTION FILM. Only the third one.

If he manages to not crap all over A L I E N and gives us his original sort of meticulous, beautiful, detailed production design, there's still a chance of something amazing.

Huh; I'm listening to the TRON: Legacy soundtrack right now and getting all sorts of optimistic retro chills down my spine. :)
