THANK you. Micdavis, I respect your intelligence enough to assume that you don't think popularity=quality. I mean, let's compare Throne of Blood and Transformers. One is hailed as a masterpiece of world cinema. One is widely reviled as trash. But the trash made more money. I mean, just turn on the radio or television and tell me that you think being popular is actually the same as being good. A lot of people CAN be wrong. Especially when the minority are more educated in matters of aesthetics (and if that sounds snobby, so be it. I'm no populist...)
We can all list movies, bands, shows, books, etc that those in the know can explain why they're awful, but they'll still rake in the dough. Know why? Because safe, middle of the road, simplistic crap has the broadest appeal. Now I'm not saying the OT is placed at some lofty, rarefied height, but it has a LOT to recommend it. Everything that made it entertaining is missing from the PT. And back to your money argument, a LOT of people saw the PT hoping it'd be good, so there's one ticket sale. Many went back to give it another shot, so that's a second ticket sale. Many initially liked it out of sheer enthusiasm for the brand before allowing themselves to admit that the magic was dead (I deluded myself into liking these movies for years...still do on a good day). I bet a ton of folks fall into that last category. And it's not just jumping on some basher bandwagon, either. It's being swayed by solid reasoning.
Just as the movies made a ton of money, so they've generated a ton of detractors. How many billions MORE might they have made if they were better?
(All this coming from the guy who loves AVP:R. You're an enigma, Cayman Shen....:lol)
