Look for vintage dennison gothic stencils. That squared off "O" looks like a Gothic stencil to me.

I’ve been doing some searching to find the locks on the sides of the barrels but reference is scarce and you can barley see them in the movie. Based on the little glimpses of them in the movie they appear to be these, but if anyone else knows for sure please feel free to correct me.

Anyone know the correct font for the stencil? Been sifting but no luck yet.

I'm pretty sure I found it after hours of looking it's called "MARSH". Here's a stencil I made ready to put on mine

Anyone know the actual colour yet. I know there's been talk about it before but has anything been confirmed. I would 100% say they're Brown Bess like the marine stuff in Aliens but maybe dirtied down a lot.

Ah, I don’t know how I never came across that one, thanks! I had some files modeled for the lid but they’re so big it’s hard to find anyone to print them. Also, those latches I posted don’t work, they’re too short and not oriented the right way.

Someone I talked to years ago said the production designer said they were black and just so dirty that they looked brown. Between the lighting and such I believe it.

What colour are the lids and are they see through and just dirty or not see through ?

You can just barely see the top of the latch on the right side of this screen to better match up the screw holes. looks just like the ones you found.

Do you or anyone else know if the dome tops are supposed to be metal in the movie? It sounds like they’re metal when they open them but the outside almost looks like frosted glass in some scenes? Just dirty in other scenes. Any thoughts on a paint finish for this dome Zombie barrel build?

I had the same question, they appear like frosted glass and some scene cuts, but in others it looks like metal domes that are just dirty dusty? Does anybody know what kind of paint scheme would be most accurate?

I looked at all the scenes with the lid and can't see any light or shadows showing through at all. You would think if it was a dirty clear plastic dome that some light would still get through. If it is a clear dome they caked on the weathering so heavy it's opaque now.

I just rewatched the first one and agree. There would be some light coming through if they were plexiglass. I think it’s supposed to be just caked on dust. That’ll be a little more work to create with paints.

Ah,okay. Here’s the bottom ring I removed via cut off tool and what the bottom of the drum looks like without it. I was rushed for time otherwise I’d have removed it that same day.

So I can barely make out that information on the barrel.

Do you have the model number/manufacturer of the actual barrel? I have searched far and wide and can't find this particular barrel.

I wound up using an aluminum roof ventilator cover I found at a habitat store and a glass light dome, stuck em together with liquid nail and spray painted it a light khaki color.. im thinking of making a mold of it somehow and making another.. I found barrels for sale here: Tight Head Plastic Drums ....

Looks great! I need to get the dome done on mine, I have the file just haven't found anyone to print it yet.
