Resining prob..

anyway i've started to resin my IM pep parts. I've read and studied methods on how they make their armors and based on most of the wondrous works i've seen they used hot glue to assemble their pep. And so i used hot glue on my baby bro's helmet and paper(or masking tape as we know here in our country) tape on my IM helm. But there seemed to be a problem. I thought the hot glued helmet would be the successful one and the taped one to be a failure. But i observed until the resin dried. And based on the results, the resin ate and melted the hot glue on the other helmet. Now my problem is, what other alternatives could i use to assemble the pep parts besides from paper tape? any suggestions? :cry

here's the IM helm.

I would think that it comes down to the chemical compatibility between the hot glue and the brand of resin you're using. It looks to be that super glue gel is the best way to go from all the research I have been doing. (So +1 on everyone else's posts)

i cant imagine hot glue inside a helmet i would want to wear. the bumps and leftover cobwebs would drive me nuts. superglue doesnt melt when heated up with fiberglassing.

well here's the brand im using..

okay ill follow finhead's tip coz he's one of those i look up to..ahihihi :cool

are you guys sure the resin wont eat the super glue gel once i apply it?

did you forget to add the hardener to the resin?

the 3M brand resin says 7 drops per tablespoon or 10 drops per ounce

and yes. dollar tree super glue gel all the way!

As long as you resin only the outside first, then let it fully cure, you shouldn't have a problem with any glue/resin issue on the inside.

I use high temp hot glue sticks and the same resin and I've never had an issue.

And if it's a pep model all the glued tabs will be on the inside anyway.

yes i did actually measure the ratio of the hardener and resin before applying it to the helmet. anyway ill just build another warmachine helm today and resin it by the afternoon hopefully.

well about the dollar tree super glue gel, we don't have it here. :cry too bad for me

This can happen if you do not use HIGH HEAT hot glue. When the resin cures it heats up enough to cause LOW HEAT hot glue to melt.

i use white 'wood' glue for the pep, it grabs fast but there is still enough time to reposition the tabs if you dont align them correctly
