Hi all,

I used to run EvilDeadChainsaws.com, a website selling replica Evil Dead chainsaws. I though I'd register on here and make a post so others can contact me.

I spent about eight months in 2005 developing the idea and construction of the three types of chainsaw I sold, doing a good deal of test & prototyping work. I have a workbook full of notes for both the working & non-working saws, and took over a thousand photos over the years EDC was running.

The pinnacle of my project was supplying Evil Dead The Musical, the 2006 New York run, the 2007 Toronto run & the 2008 Korean Run. Tom Sullivan also has one of my saws in his travelling Evil Dead museum, this was one of the first two chainsaws supplied to the 2006 New York run, although by now it looks rather sorry for itself, having being battered & broken after all the abuse its taken.

Reading a number of older posts, some have mentioned the saws were overpriced, although a huge amount of work went in to each one I made, and with each completed saw came a list if refinements to make for the next one. The saws had over a hundred parts, many of which were modified or completely custom made, with nine separate resin cast body parts, and others turned on a lathe or fabricated from wood or metal. Given that I didn't make a huge amount of money on each saw I sold, and any money I did make was put back in to new tools/equipment or more testing & prototyping, the high prices I charged were not exactly the naked profiteering that it may have appeared.

I no longer make these chainsaws at all, but I do run an Evil Dead trilogy fansite called 'Book Of The Dead' ( http://www.bookofthedead.ws ). On the 'Features' page you can see a full archived version of my old EDC.com website, including some high quality photos, and video of a working chainsaw.

If anyone has any questions, or wants to see specific production photos, please post or contact me, I'm happy to help people out. I did spend a great deal of time, effort & money developing the ideas & processes, but given that I don't make them any more, it would seem pointless to be protective over the information if it can help others on their pet projects.

I love your saws. They are amazing. I have been working on and off on my saw for the past year. I recently found out I have the wrong version of the Homelite XL. Mine is the metal body so their are slight differences to some of the parts. I will probably finish the one I have at some point and sell it to fund a new more accurate one.

Once again great saws I'm glad to see you on the RPF.

Would you ever consider doing a step-by-step on how you orignally fabricated the lids of the saws? This seems to be the one of the parts that no one can figure out. :lol

I think it's really neat, and also great for the overall mindset here, that someone who in the past made a product commercially is now coming forward with a plethora of information after the runs are done.

That is just too cool, and I'm sure quite a few people here really appreciate your mentality.

Thanks for posting EDC! I was an avid veiwer of your site back in the day and after seeing the evolution and refinement of your designs I could totally see why they were priced as such. I attempted a copy of a saw a few months back and although it was scratchbuild from basic materials your reference pics and construction photos were an immense help and let me appreciate all the problems with strength, weight etc.
