Replica Apollo-era A7L Spacesuit Build Thread (pic heavy)

Great work. I would have dropped off the boots at a shoe repair guy for the leather work personally. Its cheap to have shoes re-soled.

Haha. That might have been smarter/easier, but where could I possibly find anyone who does boot work in Austin, Texas? :D

Very impressive!
How did you do the fingertips? I still didn't find a way to make mine

Thanks! For the finger tips, I'd recommend you take a look at what fellow rpf member Daszer did for his. We made our prototype fingertips with his technique, but eventually settled on a two-part mold to cast our own silicone tips, (mainly so we can control the color).

Thanks for the mention AKurtz I'm nowhere this level as my gloves are only for use in schools so had to be believable but not museum quality -very nice to know that we all gather ideas from whatever level, I'm honoured. This is them finished and I'm happy with them for their purpose as a teaching tool. The tips you mention have not been applied at this stage - the ones you see are the old thinner tips which were just plastidip rubber gloves.

Thanks for sharing - your research on the gloves was very helpful. I'm sure the students love being able to interact with those, I know I would have!

I see on ebay there is a listing for a complete set of machined aluminum replica Apollo chest fittings.
