Removing Magnets

Hello there!

Searched the forums here, Google and YouTube, without any success.

I have a bio mask made out of resin which has several magnets glued on the inside of it, and now i wish to remove all of them without damaging the actual mask.
I don't know what type of glue it is but i'm guessing it's some kind of two part epoxy glue, i have no proper magnet information either, they are big, flat, dark grey and very strong.
The mask was bought complete with magnets.

So, do you folks have any suggestions?  heat, no?  special tools?
I know glue is ment to hold things together, but really, is there no way?  )

I think it depends on if you don't mind the inside of the mask being damaged. I would just get a sharp knife and chip away at it. Then maybe use some acetone to clear away the rest. Problem with heating it is it might warp the mask. Do you have any pics of the offending area?

A couple of thoughts.

Have you tried rubbing alcohol on the glue.

If that does nothing and you have a soldering iron try heating the magnet with the tip then pry it up once the glue warms.

If it's 2 part epoxy, acetone is your best bet (nail polish remover work too but takes longer), but be careful with it as it can/will melt resin as well.  The only thing heat will do is warp the resin, so stay away from that.  Most people that use magnets know that applying heat to a magnet causes them to become weak and lose their magnetism.  If i were doing it I would just slowly pry it up and try and chip it off.  If it's something more along the lines of ca glue, you can get solvents that will dissolve it, and should be fairly safe for use on resin.

I haven't really tried anything other than trying to scrape off small parts of both the resin and the glue under the big magnet,  there are four small magnets and one big.
It's pretty hard reaching with a small knife, i'll try alcohol next.

They are covered with soft felting in case you're wondering what it is.

I've read that using heat on magnets can make them lose power,  don't know if it's true or not.
And i don't care about how the inside of the bio looks.

Well alcohol won't do anything on epoxy, so either acetone or brute force are you best options.  As far as losing strength when heated, that is correct.  Heay kills magnetism.

Thanks for all the replies, i'll try acetone, see if i can get rid of some glue so i can try bend up the magnet

you will melt the resin of your Bio first before you melt that epoxy if you use acetone.

You really need to identify how they were bonded on ..ask the original owner if you cant tell what is sticking it on yourself. Any specific reason you want to remove the magnets? ( they may come in handy if you ever want to wear it in a combo with a mask)

The main reason why i want all but one magnet removed is because of the weight and making it easier to take off the bio.
There's five strong magnets at the moment and you need to use force to lift it off,  from the start it was ment to stay on during rapid head movements.

I'll have to consider doing it,  i don't want to damage the mask.
