Reign of Fire

Hey guys.

I'm trying to ID a pair of gloves that Denton Van Zan is wearing for my costume. Does anyone have any ideas on what kind of gloves these are?

Look like leather fingerless. Might be homemade. Very intricate pattern.

Good to see someone doing a Reign of Fire costume, it's one of my all time favorite movies!

Any chance that they could be British military gloves with the fingers cut off. I have seen very similar gloves sold as Northern Ireland gloves, they had the same knitted cuff and padded back of the hand.

Worth a look

they look like weighted gloves to me the ones with sand in them

They look like a similar glove to this...

try googling "tactical gloves" or "security gloves"

*EDIT*

Just read abaddon1974's post and searched for "NI security glove" and it came up with this:

Looks very close to me, if you chop the fingers off (from the glove, not your hand!)

Thanks for all the replies guys.

And vasago that's exactly the type of glove I was thinking it was!! :cheers

I had posted a build thread on my van zan costume but it never got any replies, anyway here's a pic of some of what i have so far.

Still growing my beard out, which'll be dyed blond and have yet to shave my head. That'll be just before the miami wizard con where im wearing it.

I actually made that costume last year for Halloween. Here's a decent reference pic I found somewhere online...

Boots are Airwalk (same ones used in the Matrix, if I recall)
Pants are basic US issue BDU
Jacket I think is an aftermarket bomber jacket that were modified. Sleeves removed and fake mag pouch/pockets sewn to the front.

He carries a cut-down Mossberg 12ga in a custom holster on his right leg. Left side has a gurkha knife tied to his leg.

Axe, I assume was custom made also...

Here's a pic of my axe before it was finished:

I built it in about 4hrs, with scraps laying around the shop. Here's a pic of a friend holding the axe, give a since of scale:

Considering I was doing this costume for halloween and on a budget of about $50, I cut a bunch of corners and just went for the overall look instead of super screen accurate. Unfortunately I do not have one decent pic of my overall costume.

If time allows, I may revise the costume with more accurate parts for DragonCon.

I would have to agree that they look very similar to British Military fingerless N.I. (Northern Ireland) gloves.

Nice work, fellas. This happened to be on Starz today so I watched it. I forgot what a great cast it had. Van Zan was a cool character, perfectly realized.

So I finally finished up and took it out this Saturday to the Wizard World Miami Comic Con. Here's a few pics. Including one with my gf as Leeloo Dallas Multipass. I'm probably going to fix the axe up a bit and redo a few things here and there before I wear it again. I might actually not wear it again for a while, took me about an hour and a half to get all that makeup off my arms. I didn't really dig having to bathe with mineral spirits either.

Bobojuice, was that "Scare for a cure" sign in the background an intentional thing? You look damn scary there lol!

Amazing costume, you really nailed the Van Zan look!
