Red X (My interpretation)

While waiting for the weather to clear up these last few weeks so I can finish my Shredder costume, I needed to make a second outfit for Anime Central that's coming up in two weeks. I had a bunch of leftover materials from my Shredder build and an abundance of black and red paint but no idea what to make. Soooooo, I just happen to be watch old reruns of the Teen Titans animated show and the Red X episode (the one when it's not Robin in disguise) airs. Voila! I have my idea.

My thought process was that if Robin grew up and reinvented himself as Nightwing, why couldn't Red X change it up a bit as well?

This is the image I loosely based my project on:



I first started with JFcustom's custom cowl file found here. And then sealed it with latex primer. Filled the gaps and built it up a bit with vinyl spackling. And then the primer, sanding and filling stages.

And then the painting stages as well as adding the interlaced fabric at the eye and mouth areas:





I got so caught up in this project that I totally neglected my Shredder outfit but I hope to finish that by next week.

Next up were the bracers and greaves. Completely scratch built and I just added details that I thought would look cool.







I then used EyeofSauron's Extremis chest file modified for foam by JFcustom and then sealed and painted:



Got some cheap nylon gloves and added a foam "X" to them:



I also have a cape (not shown) that I need to modify a bit and obviously need to do some touch up painting on the pieces. And hopefully will have some pics of me wearing the outfit in the next few days.

Lookin good man. How did the spackling do on the foam? Ive done stuff with foam but havent used the spackling on it

Did it sand smooth ok?
