It's fun. I used to watch Tom Baker and Peter Davison as Doctor Who back in high school, then I missed everything from them through 2010 or 2011, probably turning my nose up at anything new just because it was different.
Fast forward to a cold winter a year ago, and I geeked out over the holidays on a BBC America Doctor Who marathon, falling in like with it the process. In the next 5 months, all episodes ran on BBCA, so I recorded them all and watched in order thanks to copying/printing episode lists from Wikipedia. Curiously, a few minutes seem to be cut from some episodes, so I've filled in many missing scenes via YouTube. (Work, are you reading this?!)
Each Doctor from Eccleston forward brings something different, and while it takes time, I have learned to accept their different characterizations as part of the greater whole, and overall I'm thrilled the series is back on and has a lot of real resources behind it. The various arcs over many months and recurring characters have been very enjoyable. Probably my biggest disappointment was that Brigadier wasn't written back in somehow before the actor died, but too late now.
Have fun with your watching. And don't pass up this golden opportunity of sharing this with your girlfriend to bring in/discuss/watch other sci-fi, go to cons, make costumes/props, etc. lol
