Received Wrong "One Ring" from Weta?

All right, so I'm not 100% sure on this one, so I figured I'd ask you folks first. I may have missed something.

As anyone who's done some research into the topic knows, Weta's original LOTR One Ring was a US size 11. That was just the way it was; the ring used in the film was a size 11, and though many larger rings were used for close shots, etc, the hero rings were all size 11s.

Knowing that, I ordered a One Ring from Weta recently (the new, gold-plated Tungsten version without the elvish script) in a size 11. When it arrived, I thought it looked a little short, and it fit a little loose on my hand (my left ring finger is about a size 11, though I don't wear a ring on it, so I'm not 100% sure). After examining it, I believe I've received a size 12, which isn't what I ordered.

The text on the inside of the band reads,

"Weta ©NLP (s12) Jens Hansen WC"

I know what most if this means. Weta made the ring, New Line Productions owns LOTR, Jens Hansen made the original, and WC is the chemical symbol for tungsten carbide. What concerns me is the (s12). Does that indicate I've received a size 12, rather than the size I ordered?

What would you suggest I do with this Ring? Return it and get the other one, if this one is the wrong size? It took nearly a month for this Ring to even arrive; it shipped on the 12th of November, which was itself five weeks after I placed the order. I've been waiting for this for a long time, and I'm fairly put out that this is the wrong size. What do you folks suggest?

hit them up with an email saying pretty much what you did here, i would guess that it is indeed a size 12, and they would most likely be more than happy to send you the correct size..... its just up to you to decide if its worth the wait.

in the short term, yea it will suck waiting a few more weeks to get the correct size.... but years from now it wont matter. but years from now, if you dont send it back, youll always look at that size 12 and be pissed off that you didnt return it for the correct size.

I don't believe it's the size, but rather the series number. For instance, Warner Bros and Noble Collection (to name a specific example) use S for series and then the two digit year it was issued. So, for 2012, it's S12... For 2009, S09, and so forth. I would guess Weta does the same.

Oh, now, that would make sense. I did send Darren an email, so we'll see what he has to say. On the bag that the Ring itself shipped in, it does say, "laserinside #11" which hopefully references the Ring size.

Not sure how they size rings in NZ, but in Australia, rings are sized by letters (A~Z where A is the smallest) not numbers. They also do half sizes.

The replica of "the one ring" that came with my Blu-ray Disc box set is exactly the size of my wedding band.

I would suggest taking it to a jeweler and ask them to tell you what size it is. They do that kind of thing for free, usually. That way you can find out definitely if you got the right, or wrong, size from what you ordered.

Not a bad idea at all. I'll have to do that this week.

I was thinking the same thing with my size 11 ring. I remember reading on the website that the New Zealand size 12 is the same as the American size 11 (the Hensen site or something). Not 100% sure but I do remember something along these lines

Darren responded that the (s12) means it's from Series 12, as mentioned above. My mistake; it's the right size. I'm quite pleased with it, and I give Weta top marks on the whole thing, even if the wait time was a bit long.

Nothing to see here. Move along. ;)

Especially if they think you will buy one off them :)

Seriously, this is how I've bought rings for my wife. I sneak one of her's onto a part of my finger that it fits, then go to the jeweler. I get them to find a ring that fits to the same point, then they have this tapered rod with segments and they then slide the ring into that to tell you the exact size. Takes all of about 2 min.
